I was having trouble starting the game, this happend after i changed the resolution in the game to something my monitor couldent support. Now the game crashes to desktop whenever i try to start it. So i thought i could go into the videocon file and play around but forgot ot make a backup. Could someone look it up in there C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings file and tell me what is written inside the video.con file please? Thanks.

Re: Video.con file messed up
Yeah i relized that too late. For some reason i still keep crashing like 2 seconds after the splash screen loads up and i getOriginally posted by Gunny HighwayThe one for your profile isn't in the game dir, but in ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\ and in one of the 000x folders in there.
So make sure to edit the video.con there
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." messege.
Any one have any ideas on how to fix this? I really dont want to have to reinstall and download everything all over again...

Re: Video.con file messed up
First try deleting (or move) the 000x folder. Then start game and use the Retrieve option in Manage Accounts. Then you ahve your old login still, but with BF2 default settings.Originally posted by fatalerrorvxdYeah i relized that too late. Nothing. That's it. Those lines I quoted are the only lines in my current video.con file. (I just did a copy-and-paste of the whole file.Originally posted by fatalerrorvxdDo you know what comes befor all this? Wasn't there a *rem custom* or something lke that?

Re: Video.con file messed up
are you sure that wasfrom your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings and not from your C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles ?
Cause the one i need is the one from c:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\video.con which i think is just a pointer to the profile video.conComment

Re: Video.con file messed up
i had this same problem the file you wish to edit is in documents and settings not the c drive ea games just go to the 0000 folder where it has profile settings and use wordpad to open up the video files.
And yes i checked like 5 diff vid.cons and the one where i told you to look had the reso my monitor didnt like.
i checked all the others even custom and none of them had it and one file had a script that said rem custom and thats all it said.
Just change the reso to what you were using in documents and settings bf2 profiles and you will be golden im telling ya.Comment

Re: Video.con file messed up
Oh, okay... sorry. My bad. (I never heard of anyone trying to mess with that file... why are you?)Originally posted by fatalerrorvxdare you sure that wasfrom your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings [...]
Anyway, okay. Here are my two files:
<game install dir>\mods\bf2\Settings\Video.con
rem ** Custom **
run Profiles/Custom/Video.con
<game install dir>\mods\bf2\Settings\Profiles\Custom\Video.con
rem *** Generated ***
game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 0
game.setDetailTexture 4
game.setShadows 1
game.setEnvironmentMapping 1
game.setGraphicsQuality 3
game.setLightmaps 1
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 3
game.setPerformance 3
And by now, you could have already had everything reinstalled you know.

Re: Video.con file messed up
aww man....just uninstalled like 20 minutes ago. =(
I got mixed up between the 2 diffrent files. i was trying to tweak the settings for a better frame rate in game. I mixed the 2 files up and got everything all jumbled up with no backup. For some reason i get alot of slowdowns and low frame rates ingame when i shoulden't cause my computer is semi decent.
I have a 2ghz p4, 1 gig ram, geforce 6800GT 128mb. I want to maintain at least 40 fps on 1280x1024 res with medium settings.Comment
