Well I made a Map Shooting Range, I struggled through all of it :)
But after 6 restarts of trying to make a map, I finally came up with something that I wanted to share with my clan mates,

I loaded it into our practice server and everyone downloaded it, but nobody can get it to load so we can all play together, I know I am just forgetting something, does anyone know offhand what I did wrong?

Well it isn't pretty enough yet, I used some tool to help me get rid of black terrain issues, and it covered my whole map in green I will share it as soon as I figure out why nobody can play it. Everyone can run it as a local game, but they can't connect to the server.

is it that bug where you have to set the terrain detail to something for online or was that fixed in a patch?

Ok I have figured out a bunch of stuff, got my green map to work, not sure how to get it to you guys. But I am working on a second one, as the first was pretty small and I figured they would use it more for infantry practice by they really also want to do bombing and heli practice as well.....

so I am working in a new map and it is about half done so far. It isn't all green so that is a plus :)

It will have a tank range, an infantry combat area, small city type environment, 2 airbases with attack heli's and Fighters and bombers. And also a rifle range type thing.

Like I said it is about half done, I am working on getting the city part to look a little better.

oh and

is it that bug where you have to set the terrain detail to something for online or was that fixed in a patch?

I have no clue, and I can't even figure out how to make it go away, when I try to add layers and textures, it gives me an error which says I need to use uncompressed textures first....

Is it a Linux server? If so your map folder needs to be all lowercase also Info folder needs to be lowercase "info" and also the .desc file inside the info folder needs to be lowercase.

Did you pack your map - MOD>Package Mod

I made the basic layout, pics will be included later, i made it in 30 minutes, still need some tweaking but basically its flat land in the middle with Assualt Range, Spec Ops range, Sniper Range, Medic Range, and Support Range, which all can be accessed by the main control point which is in the center, or by going to the range you would like to go to, for those who dont want to shoot i also have a little raceway around the whole map, but you have to stay on the track or blow up by the barrels that are the "Guidlines" of the raceway. anyway it should be a lot of fun to play and race, especially when someone hits the barrels and creates a chain reaction lol:laugh: , pics will be coming soon, and will be released along with "Aberdeen Revisited" Early Febraury so we can test out the maps and make sure there arent any glitches and whatnot.which more information can be found on www.bf2.up.to.com <----------------------thinks thats the right url, our webmaster should be updating it on the 25th of january.

Alright, for those of you who have waited for my map.

It is done, it does not have bot support because I apparently don't have a program I need to add it.

I have made a map which has many different areas.

A rifle range with exploding barels and non exploding barrels to practice shooting on.

Two air bases - with fighter/bomber and 2 attack heli's for each team MEC vs. USMC

A Bombing run, with a "pickle jar" for practicing accurate bombing runs.

An elevated heli platform for practicing your TV guided missiles.

A city environment for intense infantry combat, lots of rooftops to get on top of.

And a tank range with 5v5 tanks.

I am looking for a place to host it so that you can d/l it.

Anyone intrested, let me know.

Sounds really cool - see mapping is fun. You are probly glad someone else didn't do it for you. Maybe I will test it for you for bugs and suggestions. I like the elevated helo idea for tv missles.

Mapping is definately fun, making this map taught me how to do so many things. 2 weeks ago I knew nothing, today I know twice that much, lol. Uploading to Fileplanet as I write this, will include a link when it is done. I know it has some things wrong with it, but I wanted to get it finished because my clan was clammoring for it to be finished. :)
