Single Player Games and Long Range Support.

    Hi,

I have two questions that are inter-related.
    1. Could you tell the community at large how to enable the unlocks on solo games only? I would like to practice techniques for using weapons I've already unlocked, and would like to try out weapons before gaining enough rank in on-line play to unlock them (sort of "try before you buy"). Currently, there is no way of doing this without getting into a lot of trouble with Punk Buster should you forget to revert the files back to their original state before resuming on-line play. This should be easy enough to do since playing locally starts a server resident on the local machine and the program is cognizant of the single player option being chosen.
    2. We all know that inevitably at some time in the future, EA/DICE will cease support for the game (may be years, but it will happen). Are there any provisions in place for users to be able to enjoy BF2/BF2SF beyond what you determine the game's life expectancy to be?
    Thanks

Hmm, if DICE stops the support for BF2, they will have created BF3, then everyone can run towards that neat lil computershop around the corner for a new grapiccard, CPU, another RAM stick, and we all will play that game.

Well, I'll give you half the usual points for that answer. The unlocker files used by the first thread listed are for 1.02, I'm at 1.12 and have BF2SF. Also it still has the drawback of causing PB to ban you should you forget to revert back. (Actually, I had a simpler way of enabling switching that worked up till 1.03, but it too caused problems with PB should you forget to revert back.) However, the technique you use is the reverse of the one I used, so it might still work using the updated files (these actually have two unlocks in each, and are in the bf2 and xpack folders respectively. I'll try to get testing this out by the end of the week and report my findings.

I would still appreciate a permanent answer from EA/DICE on the subject that doesn't cause PB to freak if you fail to change the files back.

              Testing so far!
I haven't gotten the unlock suggested by sumguyhavinfun to work. It would be nice to know if the weapon's appearance and scope view is suppose to change along with the weapon. I have temporarily abandoned this line of progress in favor of attacking the variables before they reach this point in the program (similar to what I used to do, and what the "unlocks.py" file used) since that ought to produce results more in line to what I'm looking for... with some unexpected results.

First off, did EA enable more unlocks or something starting on Friday?

If not, then I did indeed find something and would like to report such to EA/DICE. Since this could be used in a unscrupulous fashion by someone who wanted to cheat, I refuse to post what produced this result here, but I implore this website's admins to please put me in touch with EA/DICE developer's or technical representative directly so I can inform them of my findings.

              I just hope I didn't find what I think I did.

Not only will he not give up on his own questions, but now the man has found a flaw in the system and actually has the integrity to keep it to himself/authorities. Kudos to you my virtuous friend!

                  UPDATE!
So far I haven't been able to recreate the results I got Friday. Do you get 2 unlocks for being mid-way through being a Sergeant?

Since I tend to be the skeptical type, I doubt I really found something if either the Friday thing or the Sergeant thing is true.

Thought it coincidental, gave me heart failure the first time I saw it. (CRAP! There goes my on-line persona all because I'm trying to unlock weapons in single player mode!) Followed by, "Hey, no way I could have done that. Let's see if I can replicate it."

Those are the SF unlocks. To use those instead of the tier 1 unlocks you need to change both Levels to 0.
As far as the modified content problem, you just need to set it up as a mod instead of modifying your vanilla files. Try installing the excentriker unlock mod to give you the framework, then replace his kit files (which were based on 1.02) with the ones from the 1.12 patch and modify the unlockLevels in them.

                        2. unzip the excentriker folder to your ..\Battlefield 2\mods\ folder

Actually, that's exactly what I did, but it seemed to have no noticeable effect. I'll try your excentriker.de link and let you know how it turns out, thanks.
