AA I believe is fine for helo's, I can't helicopters fine.

However even after 1.2, I still believe jets will conquer. Reduced hit points ? I do fine in a jet without getting hit, AA and the Essex suck and even after 1.2 I doubt they'll be hitting jets going at 1000. Good pilots will still rule.

Re: Air Balance? Are you Happier?

Exactly...AA is already effective against helos where it was not before. Now with reduced helo armour and further improvements to AA in v1.2, helo pilots will be even MORE screwed.

I wouldn't mind that so much if I knew the jets would be a LOT easier to hit and had barely any HPs...

All we can do is wait and see. Hopefully only a few more weeks.

My bet? Jets will still rule the battlefield. Doesn't seem to bother me as much as it does others though.

Yep, Even if they do increase the power of the Essex and AA to take out jets, it will leave another imbalance with a helicopter.

Is there a way they could decrease the amount of points you get for killing ground troops in a jet?

I always try my best to fly for the team when I do decide to take a jet and I will lock onto a jet if I see it. But sometimes the stat whore in me says " why are you doing this for just 2 poits!?!?!?"

The reason I go for ground targets when im flying is, in terms of points, it just isnt worth the time to tail a jet for ages. You get 2 points for shooting down a jet, 4 for a (full)bomber. If you adjusted the points scored so that you got more for shooting the jet then im sure the pilots would change their focus a little and consider shooting down that F 15 instead of bombing that spawn point!

Maybe you could make the enemy jet an like a commander asset worth so many points; that means when you shoot it down you get the points for the pilot kill and the points for destroying the asset. Also spec ops on the ground could go for the jets as well and destroy them.

I'm pretty sure the good pilots will adapt very fast also. Even if they make the missiles stay locked that much better, I already have an idea in my head on how to beat them, it goes back to a previous post of mine in a different thread about the physics of the jets turning in this game.

I do agree that they need to do something about it, but more so on the ground AA side of things and give the people person AA kits. Just tweaking the missiles is not going to do much against the good pilots, and those are the ones people have the problems with.

I used the term griefer since good pilots seem to have made the game so unenjoyable for the people I have been debating on this subject. There are also quite a few of the good pilots that do questionable things like base/spawn camping and point whoring. Those are the true griefers, but we all end up looking the same.

I don't quite see how camping a base is griefing. I'm sure the Iraqi's in Desert Storm didn't goto the UN complaining about the Coalition base camping, it's part of war, and that's what Battlefield is about. If a team is dumb enough to spawn in the same place when they have multiple flags, do the same thing over and over, then I think they deserve to get camped. If ONLY a jet is camping a base, then do something about it. Most of the time when I see camping going on, it's because everyone is still running around, spawning with the same old kit, trying to do the same old thing, and not doing something to rectify the camping situation.

But as has been stated in this thread, if a plane is all that's causing you trouble, get a plane and do something about it. They ain't hard to fly, and if you stay on the other plane's tail, he's going to become preoccupied with you rather than your team. I agree with a few posts ago, people simply don't use their brain in combat. If they don't, I whole-heartedly believe they deserve to be camped. In most instances, camping is reversable if people would only think.

It's a good change... maybe I'll start playing maps with planes again. I've seen people go 60-90/0 too many times in jets. They're overpowered (OK, AA is underpowered, whatever)

Looking forward to the changes, though I'm afraid the assault class will now be a lot less desireable.

Re: Air Balance? Are you Happier?

I have to say I don't think air power is balanced at all. AA does not hit helicopters reliably, and stands 0 chance of hitting a jet at all.
To kill a GOOD helicopter pilot from the ground is nigh impossible, and if you say otherwise you purely havn't come up against a good one.
Only a .50 cal or an anti-tank rocket stands a chance of even hurting a helicopter unless they are stupid enough to fly infront of an armored vehicle. Hitting a chopper with an anti-tank rocket is almost as lucky as hitting it with an AA missile. To use a .50 cal you have to find one first, and they arent always easy to come by, then you have to rely on the chopper LETTING you empty your barrel into him for whole seconds, in reality this will almost never happen. I can empty a whole PKM clip into a chopper and it wont even smoke, that is just plain wrong.
Until a chopper is killable by two people with either the LMG or anti-tank then they will be overpowered. Tanks are nicely balanced, they can only be killed by two kits, and hold the advantage even over a single soldier, but can be overwhelmed. This should be the same for choppers.
As far as jets are concerned, the fact that AA will be the only thing that will ever realistically hit them from the ground, means they need extreme nerfing. I would remove bombs from all the fighters, and drastically reduce them on the bombers. This would force the fighters to make themself useful in the role they are meant for, rather than just bombin spawn points all day, and lets face it if the bomber were to only have two bombs, we have seen how effective that can be anyway.

[quote=Jesse]I don't quite see how camping a base is griefing. quote]

Griefing is in the eye of the beholder. Camping a base (without all the flags) or camping a spawn point whether you are in a plane, tank, jeep, or infantry is wrong to me. However, I realize that many don't agree. In my mind, you are either attacking or defending a flags for your team. If you are camping, all you are doing is scoring points.

I can get in an F-35 on Oman and keep the MEC airbase useless by shooting the troops, AA, planes, Havok and sky cow at will. The only time I have to leave is to re-arm the cannon. Just because I can do it, doesn't mean it is the right thing to do (obviously I have done it, but it's not the way I like to play). It only encourages the other side to do the same, which makes it pretty unpleasant for many of the players. I play on a server that has a few rules (e.g no camping UCBs without all of the flags or no spawn camping) in an effort to make a fun gaming envrionment for all levels of players. Not everyone likes our rules, but most who play appreciates it vs. the free for alls on other servers.

                        Yes!!!

They've already reworked the promotion point scheme. Revisiting the kill points is long overdue. I mentioned in some other thread that one dead infantry soldier should not be equal to taking down a $30 millon jet. Similarly, dying in a jet should cost you more.

If anyone knows a mod where they've revamped the killing/death points, please post here. I'd be willing to check it out and try my first mod.

i'm pretty sure jets are going to be unharmed, choppers are going to be weaker, and nearly nobody will play assault kit which was supposed to be the grunt kit. (not because of min. range, not because of no mid-air shoot, only because of reduced radius making it an inferior offensive kit compared to the other ones)

You've obviously never gone drinking near an airbase. Them flyboys are just as bad, if not worse, than any grunt I've ever encountered.

I'm hoping that they've been clever enough to see this coming. Maybe they could give planes a higher signature by allowing AAs to lock and track them at longer distances than choppers.

Choppers also get the advantage of being able to fly very low... a skill I've been practicing. I'm looking forward to testing that skill against functional AA. Tree level? Bah! Just try ta nail me when I'm buzzing through at grass level.

                              We'll see, anyway.
