yo guys i wanna make a movie and all i need to know is what all ill need in order to do one... i heard fraps is a major performance hog so is there another alternative?

Battlerecorder, Fraps, Windows Movie Maker or something better. Sony Vegas 6 could be free if you knew where to look

No, just bloody stop saying to use Fraps, its pathetic compared to Battlelauncher.
Battlefield 2 has it's own built in system to make and render movies with ZERO performence loss NO MATTER WHAT, however it's really difficult to use, Battlelauncher makes it easier.

Battlelauncher is third person but if you get through all the hoops, you can get a much better picture quality
Fraps is the "on the fly" recorder but depending on your system, the quality can vary.. Fraps can record exactly what you see at that exact moment. The only way to get first person footage is to use a program like fraps, since demos dont work..

Actually, i do somewhat recall having a .demo and a .cam file when i recorded ALONG time ago, if you load the cam, the cam is the (almost) first person of you.. it works in planes and helis and such, but not if you are infantry..Comment

Gamecam, renders the movie straight to AVI and uses less resources than fraps. 1 minute of recording produces a really nice looking 17 MB avi compared to a 1 gig fraps file.
Only set back is that it cannot be used on a PB enabled server so either you would need to play on a non PB server, single player or like 98% of my footage from the demos.

There isn't no almighty friendly program that will make everything for you. But you do have some alternatives:
a) use fraps to capture footage from live BF2 action or BattleRecorder action.
b) use BattleLauncher (www.battlelauncher.com) to work with BattleRecorder demos and cameras. You can render your demo to AVI as well as capture sound with the help of BL. It's a bit complex but worth the job IMO.
c) use a combination of fraps and BattleLauncher.
try recording a demo in singleplayer. Fire up the console and type
this will result in a file called TEST.bf2demo. Using BattleLauncher, you can then do different things with this file (as I wrote above).Code:demo.recordDemo TEST

Well it don't get any easier than Gamecam. It allows you to zoom in and out as your recording, adjust brightness capture specific areas of what your recording and you don't even need software to render it after your done capturing your scenes as it has Real-time video and audio compression. It's all done in one easy operation and it barely has a noticable effect on the game unlike fraps that lags my game to death when the record is on. The game screenshots are really good looking as well. Most screenshots are TGA or BMP formats and are 2 MB or more, Game Cam can save your still images in JPG format and much smaller.
It took me about 10-15 minutes of reading the tutorial to figure it all out.:)
Actually its as easy as right clicking on the icon, drag your games shortcut icon into the profile window and your done. Now right click the icon, then click launch and the instruction of what keys does what shows up on the screen. You can record everything from the moment your key lights up, I recorded the entire intro movie. Looks great!
