Thought: Different out of bounds per side?

I was just thinking about the issues of base rape and how it could be *solved*.

[Please note, I accept base rape as a legit tactic. However, I also think it would be interesting to have maps with "safe" bases. Thus my thinking on the issue]

I occurs to me that if it was possible to draw the out of bounds differently for each side, you could make uncappable flag bases consitered out of bounds to the enemy. Poof. Done. Solved.

Now before anyone goes off about how fluffy 'n carebear this idea sounds, I'm thinking of it in terms of adding to certain map play styles. For example an assualt map that involves flying your boys in via chopper. Opperation Clean Sweap could be a good example. There's really no need to attack the USMC uncap-flag. If it were marked outta bounds for the PLA, you'd have less noobs thinking it's a good idea to waste time/resources trying to camp it.

Something like Mash city could be fun too... assuming you're dealing with more balanced transports and more remote air bases.

Anyway, just thought I'd bounce this off ya folks 'n see whatcha thinks.

Uhm, biggest threat to base raping is from jets, and jets dont care about the boundries...
And lets not forget that will eliminate the role of SpecOps blowing up assets... unless maps were changed.

As for individuals camping an uncappable base... its not exactly hard to kill a single infantry or even a single vehicle... it would reflect more on the stupidity of the team being camped than the camping player.

its a good idea, especially if it was for a different style of play, like a push map, it would give a chance for the advancing team to take a flag. this worked well for DC, although it sucked when the opposition had the scud pointed at the main. good thing there is no scud in BF2.

Another good idea from Wargimp. I thought about this also. Out-of-Bounds would be perfect. But you would have to give planes and vehicles less time to get back inbounds than a soldier on foot. Special Forces would be exempt ( destroy assets), unless he gets into a vehicle and such. This would make game fair much better, because both sides have an out-of- bounds main base.

                I disagree.
The american team can easily get ahold of the MEC air resources on that map. Placing the U.S. airbase out of bounds would eliminate the MEC's chance at doing the same to the U.S.
It's not such a waste of resources to go there, because if you manage to grab their F-15 or cobra, that will so seriously cripple them, that it can well stem the tide in a damaging battle.

Was actually surprised this idea wasn't implemented when I saw the game even used boundries.
I was used to the boundries from Operation Flashpoint which makes it dangerous to cross into.
I like the idea. However they would need to push the Commander assets up in the maps to even have it where it makes sense.

Re: Thought: Different out of bounds per side?

It's an interesting idea and it may work. I think the problems with have been mentioned. Yesterday, my buddy and I went to the US base in Kubra Dam to take out the commanders assets. Took out the artillery, killed the command, took their black hawk, went and took out the UAV and radar, killed a few people, took their cobra chopper, etc...

Normally we don't like to harass main bases like this, but the opportunity to take the choppers where there. I hate when it happens to our team. But people should take care of their vehicles.

As for base raping, the only time that does seem to happen is when one team either sucks compared to the other or just gets beat that round. In a way, you deserve the punishment. In Gulf of Oman, it's fairly easy to hold them back, even if you don't go into their base. Either way, they are going to take a beating.

It is a good idea, having different zones to keep a battle over certain areas so players would focus on bombing that ship or whatever. I've always liked the idea of forcing planes to fly higher via a zone like that (those have to be sky boxes on the map or something similar) even if it means giving AA and the planes extra range just so i could stop watching planes do stuff like a 1942 plane would but with super rockets attached to it's back. Different zones would also be nice for a king of the hill style map mode where ya got a bunch of spawns around a single point and that single point has to fend off the other side but can't leave the well crafted point. I reckon their is a lot that could be done with zones and such.

Re: Thought: Different out of bounds per side?

Yeah, don't get hung up on the examples. Cleansweep was just an example of a current BF2 map that is closest to one that would work well this way.

Ideally, you'd use these different out of bounds on new maps that are taylored to the concept.

I like the idea of setting something up much like Mash City where you'd have two non-cap flags at opposite ends of a large map. Between them, you have a city/village. The out of bounds for both sides would only include the city and that team's uncaps (plus the route between them, obviously). The effect would be to ramp up the intensity of the combat area while providing constant and insured resources for both sides.

This sounds like an idea that should be perfectly doable. So far as I can tell, there's currently no way to do it within the engine, but a tweak from Dice could change that very easily.

And yes, you would still be able to drop arty and/or fire into areas that are out of bounds... but I can't see that being too major an issue.

Crappy idea. You couldn't steal equipment. Being unable to steal equipment limits the strategic depth of the game and even the "teamwork rules!" camp must realize that's a bad idea.

Not to mention you couldn't spawn camp a terrible team to speed up the round.

Damn that made me laugh. You mean to tell me you spawn camp to speed up a round? And then what? You stay there and play again?

I gotta give you credit...that is literally the best defense of the idea of spawn camping. I disagree with you, but damn that was funny. I have tears in my eyes.

                              Well done.
