  • Network Problems

For some odd reason my Local Area Connection says that I have limted or no connectivity. I am using a Lynksis router and have 4 other computers on the network that get internet just fine. I have tried to assign a static Ip and it says that I have been connected, but I never recieve any packets. Also for some random reason it seems to assign me a random Ip adress of 169.254.252.x when is should be 192.168.1.x I have googled this and tried many diffrent guides that I found, but none of them worked.

    Re: Network Problems

What you need is a network wiz like me...

Type the following from your windows "RUN" command.

From run type in "cmd" hit "enter" type in "ipconfig /release"

    let it do its thing..

then from windows in the start bar fin "My Network Places" right click it and hit "Properties"

find the coonection with the problem right click it and hit "disable"

let it do its think and right click it again and hit "enable"

Again let it does its thing... at this point it should come back up barring in cabling problems. If not click "repair connection"

One more thing... Make sure you do not have an IP set for the card manually. Make sure before you do above its set to obtain IP from DHCP server.

    Let us know!

      Re: Network Problems

I have done the Ipconfig commands before and it did not do anything, and it says that it cannot contact the DHCP server and I have it set to optain the Ip automatically already

        Re: Network Problems

You do not want to do a renew you want to do a release.

        ipconfig /release

then disable and re-enable the conection.

I did exactly as you just stated and it still did not work Do you have any other ideas? Do you think a new ethernet card would fix this problem?

                  Re: Network Problems

                  Excellent...

Couple of things for you to try.

From the PC that "Currently Is Being a Tard" try to ping 127.0.0.1.

This address will perform a loopback on the card. If it responds great most likely not the problem.

If it does not respond its most likely is a NIC problem.

Also I have seen this before were a repair or disable / enable has no effect. (Also had one client report he was able to resolve by roling back his PC to the day before) (What a pain)

I would run the the properties one more time for the NIC. Make sure everything is defaulted and it does not have any gateway or subnet addresses.

You can also check your cable py connecting it to another PC and seeing if the issiue is replicated.

Let me give this some more thought....

                    Re: Network Problems

Ok this may sound stupid but its worth a check. When I setup a router I limit the amount of DHCP addresses the router will issue (Security) I also have MAC filtering on ect. I am asuming it was working before and nothing has changed so this is most likely not your issiue just thought I would mention it.

It did respond, and I have tried diffrent CAT5 cables and it still did not work. Do you think a new Ethernet card would fix my problem?

                        Re: Network Problems

I would say no. If it responded the card is talking.

You could try one last test to see if the card does work.

Assign you card a IP address in the same range and subnet your other PC's have.

                        IE 192.168.0.X
                        SUB: 255.255.255.0

May sure the address is not used on another PC.

In the properties for the card set the IP and subnet mask. Se if the error message goes away about limited conectivity.. Then see if you can talk to your other PC's by pinging them.

If you can its a windows issue. something is corupted or screwed up. (I have to say its usally a pain in the you know what to figure out) if this is the case. Like I said I have a client that ended up rolling back his PC because of a simular issiue..

Try the listed and let me know...

                          Re: Network Problems

I know that it can respond to my other computers because I set it up with the same Ip once by accident and on the computer next to me a message poped up saying that there was a Ip conflict, and I am pretty sure that it is not a windows issue because I got desperate last night and did a complete format.

EDIT: I tried to ping my other computers Ip after setting a Static Ip and the operation timed out.
