Smoother gameplay, noticed?

Hi!

After being gone from Battlefield 2 I have started playing again - and it couldn't be better!

I've noticed some serious changes in the gameplay, not only do the Verifying client data take only 10 seconds, but when I join the server there are no kind of lag at all! The game just run on, like when I join a CS server.

This is awsome, and what can have caused this? I haven't change anything with my computer, but I'm going to buy 1 gig more RAM.

Has there been some kind of change with Punkbusters files in a Punkbuster update or anything?

Have anyone else had this notice this or is it just my computer who has gone from normal computer to über pwn3R?

Some servers have their PB hard drive checks turn off, and that can cause the verification time to drop to almost zero, other then that, I dont know what else it could be.

When was the last time you played? What patch version?

Here's a ranked server, with PB turned on, that only takes 10 secs for me when it comes to verifing data, while most others take about 40 seconds.

Dude.. no...

I played today, and it goes smooth.. but then I joined a server and that one took long time to join, so I guess it's that hard drive thingy turned off on most of the servers I've been playing on.

However, I love it.

well i agree with Kixfox after a few weeks of terrable lag i really do think it is better that before the mess. im not sure what was done to fix this or if it is only on the servers that i play on. ive never really though that lag was an issue untill that SF/BF2 patch, but no trouble now.

I wish they would use punkbuster in this game like they do with alot of others, were it lets you start playing but it checks while you're playing instead of making you wait so friggin long.

PB can't check that many large files ingame with 64 players online, without lagging the server. It would take forever, and cheaters would remain in the game too long. The "verifying client data" is BF2 doing it's own MD5 check. Most server admins don't have PB setup to do them, as it would be redundant.

So, you have a longer wait to get into the game, but less lag, because PB has less checking to do while you play.
