Finally learned how to use BF Recorder - but!

Is there any way to turn of names over peoples heads? So way to like clear the GUI? I have this idea for a funny video and I don't want people to get upset when I make the video.

It'll be good...just need to know how to turn of everything except the BFR footage.

If you dont press the spacebar when you load (cycle through players), their names never show

Theres also something else you can do by editing one of the game files, do a search and you should find it

Actually it does. While you are recording cameras the names are clearly visible... When you render out to AVI (providing you are doing this and not just using Fraps) the names will be gone....

You can edit the the file in EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2 GameLogicInit.con

            The content of the file:

rem *** Put non level specific initializations here ***

rem *** Load multiplayer free camera here
            run Common/FreeCamera/Object.con

            gameLogic.setDefaultNumberOfTickets 1 250
            gameLogic.setDefaultNumberOfTickets 2 250

            gameLogic.enableVoHelp 1
            gameLogic.supplyDropHeight 50
            gameLogic.supplyDropNumSecsToLive 300
Now add this to the line:

            renderer.drawNametags 0
            So the final result:

rem *** Put non level specific initializations here ***

rem *** Load multiplayer free camera here
            run Common/FreeCamera/Object.con

            gameLogic.setDefaultNumberOfTickets 1 250
            gameLogic.setDefaultNumberOfTickets 2 250

            gameLogic.enableVoHelp 1
            gameLogic.supplyDropHeight 50
            gameLogic.supplyDropNumSecsToLive 300

            renderer.drawNametags 0
Edit: Anyone have a link to a good site where they explain for movie making noobs, that's me. How you convert from the BF2demo movie file to .avi? Thanks

But make sure you back up the original EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2 GameLogicInit.con cos if you use the edited file you can't join servers

Hmm, I've heard that from several others, but it doesn't happen to me..

You could also just delete the line again instead of backing a hole new file up with it.

Some servers will not allow you to join with an edited GameLogicInit.con, but some won't. I entered a few servers with the nametags off and it was a lot of fun, but confusing. I was TK:ing a lot, not on purpose of course.

You cannot convert the demo file directly to .avi because the demo file itself is just a bunch of code and the battlefield recorder just loads what the code tells it to. You would have to use a program like fraps

Yeah man, you should use BattleLauncher!

Seriously, dont bother doing anything with Battlerecorder without it - Battlelauncher is great.

You can choose which demo file you want to use, then pick if you want to view it, record cameras, view with a prerecorded camera, or render a demo+camera out to avi. You get to pick the codec you want to use, I prefer HuffyUV because it is fast and uncompressed. You can go straight to xvid if you like, but it will be alot slower.

Benefits of rendering to avi rather than using Fraps

                          a) You can record all the camera movements in 640x480 at the lowest graphics settings to ensure you dont get any low framerates while recording cameras (those of you with the latest in hardware probably wouldnt have this problem anyway)

                          b) After recording the cameras in lowest possible res, you can now use any PC to render the videos. Eg, find your mate who has the absolute nicest setup with 4 SLI gfx cards and render your videos on that You can render up to 1600x1200 or more (which will take agggggges) - but this will give you hell when editing. I recommend rendering at 800x600 if your final video is going to be 640x480 - This gives you the opportunity to cut/crop and/or pan certain scenes where required.

                          c) You can render in ANY framerate. Eg, if your final video is going to be in PAL resolution @ 25 frames per second, you can render sections of your videos out at 100fps, this will mean that when played at 25fps, it will be very, very fluid slow motion (like in the slow parts of my video posted above)

I highly recommend using Huffyuv for encoding (pre editing), and XviD for your final encode before sharing with the community. Huffyuv will require ALOT of disc space - im talking about 15mb per second for high res raw footage.... its worth it, and will provide you with the fastest access time while editing....

Maybe I didnt make it all that clear above, but you DONT NEED TO RENDER TO AVI IN REAL TIME - eg, if your computer can only manage 1 frame per second at the highest possible settings THIS IS OK!!!!! the avi file will still come out perfect, although will take quite some time..

I should also mention, that while you are rendering a video, if you want to stop it part way through PRESS THE 'R' KEY - this will stop the video from rendering and allow you to quit Battlefield. Quitting while the video is still rendering will result in an unplayable avi file...

                            That is 100% incorrect information

you can render to avi natively with battlerecorder from the command line, but i seriously recommend you use battlelauncher to make things a bit easier to 'see'...
