slow fps during artillery or bombing

I have a AMD3500+ running at 2,6Ghz and a 6800Ultra. When I run the game at 1600x1200 with all settings maxed out, it runs quite smooth. It only slows down a lot (to about 10fps) when there is artillery in the neighbourhood of my site is being bombed. What setting or combination of settings should I lower for this to stop having this much effect on the fps? I want to keep my resolution at 1600x1200.

I've been trying several different settings, but the slowdowns stay.

Maybe anyone who can tell me optimal settings for this setup?

You're not going to like any of the answers you'll get. Running all high 1600x1200 online without a problem is the elusive desired ability. And no offense, but a 6800 just isn't going to cut it. If you're playing otherwise okay, feel lucky. There'll be a bunch of people after me saying that I don't know what I'm talking about and that they have a 6800 maxed out at that res running at 90fps no problems. Mostly bull, but some people are able to do it. Good luck though =)

its not supposed to get 10000 fps all day, ok, when more things happen, your fps slows, live with it.

try these tweaks, i had the same problem, i also upgraded from 4 X 512MB ddr 400 OCZ plats to a 2GB (2X 1024mb) DDR 400 kit OCZ plat.
turned out my DFI board just didnt like 4 sticks, and it runs sweet now.
before i was getting errors from memtest on 4 sticks@ DDR400

how much ram do you have?

Or try downing the AA/AF since at 1600x1200 it won't make a huge difference.

what shoot2kill said. AA is not needed at such a high resolution because since its such a high resolution, then there is like no aliasing. and AF is just texture filtering i believe? so that has nothing to do with the resolution

Thanks, I'll go and try those tweaks. I have 2GB of Corsair 3500LLPRO TWINX mem (2 sticks of 1 GB each)

I said previously it drops to 10 FPS, but it's actually much worse. Normally it runs at a steady 34 fps (Dynamic lighting and dynamic shadows disabled, Effects at low and 2xAA) but only when there is a lot of debris flying around it drops to about 4 fps. At first I though hey this has to be the effects settings, but it seems I was wrong. Can't seem to find out what really happens that slows it down to almost 10% of normal values.

PS I get no real improvement when I turn off AA/AF. The initial fps is somewhat higher, but it still drops to about 4 or 5 fps

Artillery is basically particle effects, so change your effects setting to medium to get better FPS when it goes off.

He's a crazy Dutch, just like me :) we like things maxed out but 1600x1200 or something whatever the resolution is is a bit much...

If I understood you correctly: You get like 34 fps normally!?!? That's not a smooth ride. That's awful.

right i didnt read you had a 34 fps normal... i dont think it's smooth
'till it's above 60...... still think its kinda slow on 60 :P
