N52 Profiles

A few other people here have mentioned using the N52 speedpad as a controller in BF2, but not really posted up any profiles. I figured I'd start up a thread for people to list their setup for the N52 if they'd like to share.

It's a simple little display of the keys and what I've got them set to. I thought it'd be easier than spelling it all out. The only key I'm undecided about is the far left in the middle row. The other keys are in control of every command I can think of that I really use. Perhaps it could bring up the commander screen, not that I'm ever a commander.

That little thumb switch above the D-Pad will soon become a shift button so that it remaps all the other keys to macros for short, simple things to type into the chat.

Nice idea. Link seems dead at the moment though. I've been using the N52 for about six months now, sure do love gaming with it. I'll keep an eye on the post for when your profile is up, will look into posting mine soon.

I use the N52 as well. Can't game without it.
1 problem I have with your profile is putting the shift above the D-Pad.
Reason is you use the D-Pad for movement and you NEVER want to have to remove your thumb from the D-Pad. You never know when you will need to move and you don't want to be caught with your thumb on the shifter.

I don't have a picture but I will tell you what my profile is:
Top 5 buttons are 1-5 and 6-0 (with the Shift on Button 10 (second row right) (I will separate 'shift' control with a "/" for the other buttons if they have one)
button 6 is my TS 'Push to talk"
Button 7 is Crouch/Change cam View
Button 8 is Jump/Map
Button 9 is Prone/Use
Button 10 is Shift. Use with my index finger. It's actuall become a very natural movement AND I don't have to release my thumb from the D=Pad

Buttons 11-14 are F1-F4/F5-F8 for Vehicle positions.
The orange button above the D-Pad (I forget, I'm not on my Game PC)
Button 14 (Below the D-Pad) is for Tank Smoke screen.
The Wheel is for Mouse wheel (Although I select Weapons with the Number Keys.)
The Wheel Button was reconfigured for In game VOIP when SF came out to make room for Buttons 7 and 8 for Night vision and Gas Mask.

Of course this sort of this is up to your own personal comfort but I urge you to think about what I said about ever having to move your thumb off the D-Pad

Yeah, that's why I had a ? next to it. Didn't seem to work as well as I had hoped. I may either use button six for a shift instead, or as a push-to-talk button like what you have.

I could remap the wheel button to be a "shift-while-holding" key for the typing, too, so that I wouldn't have to take my thumb off the d-pad.

I haven't really played around with the shift states much. I wanted to get used to the pad before I start asigning multiple functions to one button. The commands in my profile are kind of all over the place, but it feels natural for me.

Well I'm on TS alot with my clan so I don't have to type that much.
If I REALLY have to I'm use both hands to type.

Not sure why you'd need to hold a button down on the N52 to type though.

The wheel button is a clumsier button than the others. I would leave that one for something you don't use that much and only need to push it once.
Just my opinion.

I've been using the N52 since it came out and was using the N50 before that.
I'm very familiar with it.

Well, the shift button would be to change other keys into their macro counterparts that would have various things to type but, come to think of it, I really don't type that much. Anytime I have much to say is usually during that 15 seconds when I'm down like "sorry, my fault." when I can't use the "q" menu to say so. Anything can be down by comms if it's to my squad, though. So I guess button 6 gets my comm control.

I'll likely asign my Red state (activated by the scroll button) to controling vehicle positions if I don't have something in there for typing (which is becoming less likely by the minute)

I suppose I should mention that the reason mine isn't as "complete" as others (it's missing weapons 1-4) is that I have the missing commands mapped to my mouse (MX518). Scroll up for my knife, scroll down for grenades/rockets, small thumb button for pistol, large thumb button for main gun, and left/right buttons are the standard fire/scope.

Forget the key mappings... somebody post some cool macro ideas they came up with. Lately I've been mapping the shift states to different kits. Red = Medic, for example. I've got a macro that switches to paddles, crouches, delays (giving time to aim), fires and switches back to the primary weapon as a single keystroke. Its helped me with a problem where if I whiff with the paddles, I'd stay there 2-3 times more and get shot up everytime. Now if I miss you once, sorry for ya ... at least we dont both get shot now. :)

i got a question for u n52 owners whit a g5 or g7. Is it possible to make a key bind so that if a puss and hold the prone button and the press right mouse button to zoom that my dpi changes from 800 till 400.

that would be very handy because I always play as a medic whit he L85A1, and now if i want to shoot some one in a distance i first have to press prone and the zoom and then 3. but than the gun still move to fast. so it would be really great if i can change my dpi just buy pressing and holding the prone button and press zoom

Here is my N52 profile



Default mode is for your average foot soldiering. Prone/Parachute are triggered on same key. Pick up kit used to be on Enter/Exit/use key but didn't work so well when you were in range of a fixed gun emplacement so now it's elsewhere. There is also a grenade throw and switch back to primary weapon macro, rarely used. There is also a medic revive macro which again I've rarely used. I have a "Spotted Enemy" macro which is a one button press, I tend to use that a lot.

Red shift is for Armor/Transport mode. One macro there I find quiet useful called "POV Scan" auto switches between Chase Front and Chase Rear views until stopped. Handy when taking seemingly undefended flags on your lonesome, you'll spot that sneaky special ops trying to plant his C4 on you. Switching vehicle positions is on the D-Pad, I find it gives me extremely fast switch times to the machine gun position in the Vodnik and it's like.

Blue shift is for chopper mode. Enter/Exit vehicle will trigger parachute. There is a missile barrage macro called "DeathBlossom" but I rarely use it.

Green shift isn't used but was pondering using it somehow as Commander.

I imagine you've skipped the weapons too Talus as a Logigamer afficionado?. I'll check your N52 profile shortly, I'm always looking for ideas to improve my layout and it's tweaked every now and again for my ideal configuration.

I'm glad there's still some interest in the Nostromo, I think it's a great benefit to gaming.

Anyone tried the Saitek Pro Gamer Command Unit? Wouldn't think it can compare to the trusty N52 by a longshot.

Yeah, I have most weapons mapped to my MX1000 The only weapons I have mapped to the N52 are wrench/paddles/zip/grapple, and knife.

Thanks Guys I appreciate all the advice and links, if there's any more out there please don't hesitate to post. I'll be looking into what's been put up for now. Seems like an enormous task to map the keys and set the macros. I'll be extremely interested in one touch of a button, select grenades and throw macro

I never use the D-pad for movement. I find it's just too hard on my arm/wrist over long play sessions. I originally picked up my first n50 to help relieve some RSI symptoms I was experiencing (it worked like a charm). Instead what I do is map U,D,L,R to other game functions and disable the diagonals completely (they get triggered all the time by accident otherwise).

I map the keys to a WASD style layout and put as many of my wep swaps as possible on my mouse buttons.

I also stopped using an MX1000 for gaming, I've sworn off wireless mice and keyboards entirely when it comes to gaming.
