    Adobe Premiere vs. Sony Vegas

many of you would say Adobe Premiere, that's why i have started this thread.

i would like to know what makes Adobe Premiere superiour to Sony Vegas? i have tried the demo of Premiere and i own Vegas but i still don't see why people choose Premiere over Vegas.

is it the price? the interface? does it render better than Vegas? better effects? what is it? the ONLY thing i have seen that Premiere is superiour in is the scrolling credits..

please post your thoughts on these products.

i want specifics not "cause vegas sucks that's why" kind of BS.

I tried both and chose Vegas purely because of the better manipulation of text/effects, I saw my overall potential with Vegas (being the titles kind of guy that I am)
I don't have anything against Adobe as After Effects looks cool, even though the advertising video reeks of marketing, I may consider a switch to premiere pro one day, only if I can make it look as good as I wanted to edit in Vegas.

One of my best received flicks was done in Windows Movie Maker.

The editors are just tools. You are the artist. If you can convey your idea to your audience and get them emotionally involved, it doesn't matter what you edit in or what effects you use. CRappy shots will still be crappy shots in any editor. You may be able to hide some imperfections but your pallete will still be scarred. Bad music tracks will destroy otherwise great clips.

With that, I prefer to use Vegas because of it's ease of use. Premiere/After Affects is much more powerful giving almost total control to the user in how to manipulate the canvas. Vegas, while not very powerful, does allow for a wide range of tweaking in the effects and it's keyframe support is really intuitive. To get the most out of Premiere/After Effects, I really suggest in buying a book or some DVD instructional videos to get your hands around all the hidden goodies that Adobe products offer.

Vegas has limitations. Adobe has none. If you can dream it, you can create it in Adobe...but you have to be able to master the effects to be able to concoct your own signature effects chain.

I really love Vegas right now because it's allowing me to do things which movie maker couldn't do and it's right at my speed (read learning curve lol). I dabble in After Effects to learn, and I imagine in a year or so, I'll be proficient enough in the program to put it to good use. But until then, I'm enjoying the simplicity of Vegas.

I dont i have both of them and use both for different things i guess it more depends on what im going to do. Vegas does have a few more things when it comes to text editing and stuff but i do find myself using Adobe more often

I use adobe premiere pro, i tought myself everything about it through trial and error and experimenting (started on windows movie maker to get the basics). I downloaded a premiere pro video tutorial and i knew exactly what he was talking about for every single thing.. Now i have never tried vegas but i can assure you both programs (and final cut pro if your on a mac) are almost the same (I had 0 mac exp and i edited a movie on it with FCP and i still knew exactly everthing i was doing).. However Some can't do specific things, while others can.. For example, Adobe premiere pro cant do titles without a plugin or after effects.. However you can be creative and create your own titles manually with a simple photoshop text file and some creative ideas with premiere's filters (I did this with ambush at mashtuur).

So if you are looking for a powerful all around tool, try vegas
If you are looking for a professional "Do it all" tool, try adobe
You wont go wrong either way. Its a HUGE step from Windows Movie Maker.
And for the most part, if you know the basics from Windows Movie Maker, All you need to do is experiment and figure each button out and build on that (using tutorials or trial and error).

I havnt tried Vegas, and have tried premiere for a little bit. But i do have 2 other adobe products and from that i can tell you that premiere will probably be much better once you get the hang of it, but will probably have a very steep lurning curve, as i have noticed in PS CS/CS2 and in Illustrator CS2. If your expecting to learn it in a week or so forget it. Adobe's stuff usually takes about a month to get a ok/good understanding if you use it a LOT. Also, about what someone else said about the titles that you can create in Vegas, if you have PS you can probably create much better titles if you know what your doing, but then again if you dont have PS then Vegas is better in that aspect. Basicly if you want top notch stuff that will take you about a half year to master and you will be able to produce better things with in the long run go with adobe, if not go with Vegas.

Honestly, you could easily learn all the basic features of Premier Pro in 24 hours. In 1 hour you can have the editing functions down, and the rest is just playing around (or getting some documentation )

Adobe Premier Pro - Took me about a day or two to learn the basics, but if you want to master it, I guess it's a week - max.

I've tried both of them and like them both, but I stick to Adobe. I can't explain why but working with other Adobe software makes it easier to get into Premiere and understand the logic behind the software better.

Anyway, it is a known fact that Adobe software requires some more "work" as there aren't any fancy wizards that will do all the work for you. You need to get your hands dirty.

I have both but only use Adobe premiere, i have briefly tried Vegas but didn't seem to be at the same standard as premiere. Also like Senap said, it is easier transferring from Photoshop or After effects to Premiere.

                          Aftereffects. Hardcore.

And for effects like colour correction, levels, stylisation effects etc...I use photoshop where i can. Photoshop filters are pixel perfect.

It seems that most people prefer Adobe Premier Pro 1.5, so I'll try and download the trial. :)
