    Question about coop play...

I play bf2 at work with a few other guys while things are slow and the bossman is away. We came up with a few gaming rigs that we keep tucked away till it's time to play, then we drop a line from the LAN we ran in the ceiling. What I'm getting at is that we have no internet access (I work on an AF base, everything is monitored) so it's always just the 4 of us playing each other.

This was never a problem when we all played bf1942, as we would just load a coop map and have fun battling the bots. Since we've since become addicted to bf2, we really want to play coop, but don't want to go back to bf1942.

So in searching these forums, I found the BF2 SP 64 Maps Mod v1.03, which apparently has the ability to run a coop mission in a small LAN set-up. I dl'd it and installed it, but it didn't do anything. Nothing. Obviously, I have something messed up or I just completely missed the purpose of the mod. Do I need a certain version of bf2 for this to work? Any ideas on what could be causing the issue?

    I appreciate any help, thanks.

    Re: Question about coop play...

one person needs to load up the game in single player mode, this pc will be the host.

I have no idea what this 64 player mod you have is, but I assume it allows you to play single player games with 64 players, not with the 16 players you are limited to regularly. If thats the case, you really dont need the 64 player mod you downloaded, you can just play 8v8 with the 4 of you and 4 bots vs a team of 8 bots.

Have the other 3 players join your server by connecting directly to the ip of the host computer.

You guys sound computer savy, so i wont go in to depth about how to find your internal IP.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, I know how to find my ip, and I know about starting a sp game and having the other join via ip, but I couldn't find a way to select "join via ip" and assumed it was because we didn't have an internet connection. Obviously, we all still have ips on the LAN, I just can't figure out how to find this option. Ideas? Cause you're right, this option would be great for us as well.

Co-op doesn't require a mod; just people joining an SP game as if it were a server. If your "join local" window doesn't have a "join by ip" button then you have an old version and should probably upgrade to the latest patch. Or you could use the workaround:
        1. Start a local server; map doesn't matter
        2. Clients go to "join local"; they should see the server in the browser but don't join yet
        3. Cancel the server and start an SP game with the map you want to play
        4. Clients join the server through the browser
Starting new maps you don't need to repeat step 1 as long as the clients don't close or refresh the browser.

The "co-op" mods are actually maps with expanded play area (mostly just for humans). The BF2SP64 mod I would strongly suggest getting the uninstaller and newer version 1.04 from the author's site. There are at least 4 mods with larger maps for SP/Co-op play. Codebasher did the first one I know of.

        codebasher's co-op32 mod: http://members.iinet.net.au/~codebasher/index.html (download doesn't work)
        Found it at filecloud: http://www.filecloud.com/files/file...._file_id=47158
        and at ausgamers: http://www.ausgamers.com/files/details/html/18392

        WCC co-op mod: http://www.wccsquad.com/
        Mercenaries mod: http://www.mercenaries.dies-world.com/
        Viathon's 64p map mod: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22810 (Get the 1.04 version.)

I've only played codebasher's maps so far.

          ^^What he said^^

hmm. I am pretty sure there has always been a way to join a specific IP in BF2, but alas I am at work and cant actually check.

The "join internet" has always had "join by ip" but "join local" didn't in the original release.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Just so I'm clear (because I'm not too bright in these things) I need a newer patch for the original release to run these mods correctly? What version patch is that? Let me know and I'll dl it and get that installed.

I haven't done anything to the original install outside of a ***** patch, which I would assume won't work once/if I install a newer version, right?

The mods might work in the original version. The main thing is that the original doesn't have the local join by ip so you need to use the workaround I posted to play co-op. Once you have co-op working you may want to look at the mods.

If the ***** patch modified bf2.exe a new BF2 patch will overwrite your patched .exe. I recommend against ***** patches even though you aren't playing online. Use a virtual-CD/DVD drive (e.g. Daemon Tools) and a disc image (search on those terms to find lots of info on how to do it).
