VRAM Memory Testing

Hi all.

I did try and search for this, but you can imagine how many posts appear with the word memory in...

Does anyone know of a decent (trusted), free VRAM testing utility to put my 6800GT thru it's paces and check that the VRAM is all present and correct.

Like many, I'm disappointed with the performance of my 6800GT and just want to give it a once over. XFX seem reluctant to supply anything and would prefer I just RMA it. Odd.

There is an app called BurnInTest that had a section for testing video RAM.

Nice one. Thanks. I did install that other product of theirs "PerformanceTest" and that seemed to go ok. I got a score of 620 I think, which I think is ok. Didn't really do much testing of the G/C memory though, just it's performance. Performance I have no problems with - the games seems to run as smooth as anything on 100fps... however, still have the problems with missing textures (replaced with black shapes) and vehicles disappearing.

Did you find the video memory test section?

I fixed that black texture issue with my video card by upgrading the drivers back in june.

What version drivers are you running?

Yes thanks. Found the memory test side. I'm currently running driver version 81.95. Which I think is pretty up to date.
I may have sorted the problem by installing another 1GB of RAM. Only problem I have now is that it's clocked all DIMMs down to 200MHz (as I've now used all three slots - weird mobo). I've test on the map that gave me most hassle (Daqing Oilfields) and so far so good. The proof will be in the playing I think; when I get a chance.

(screen008 is actually view of helicopter TV cam missiles, but some reason also has leaves in it!)

But does this happen in any other game?

You might want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling BF2 in case some files are corrupted.

I had similar problems within HL2 - however that was more like strange coloured triangles all over the place. In Lost Coast I did have the skies disappear and replaced with solid black. Buildings etc all seemed fine though.

Thats the only "useful" games I currently have installed to be honest. The rest are not very graphic intensive.

I run the burnIn test software on the card and it seems to pass ok. Said something like:

Total Memory: 245.7 MB
Tested Total Memory: 232.8MB

... didn't highlight any errors, so I assume it passed ok.

You still may have a bad card if you experience odd graphical glitches and poor performance on many games ...

Load up another really GPU intensive game (i.e. F.E.A.R. demo) and see what happens.

Well, it installed and auto-detected the performance settings etc.
This is what it seems to have set stuff too:-

Graphics:
FSAA: Off
Light Detail: Maximum
Enable Shadows: On

Texture Filtering: Anisotropic 4x
Texture Resolution: Maximum
Videos: Medium
Pixel Doubling: Off
DX8 Shaders: Off
Screen Resolution: 1024x768
Shaders: Maximum

All seems pretty good? And seems to play pretty well at those settings. Nothing out of the ordinary with the graphics anyway. Could do with a bit of AA added though.

Ok...sounds like your video card is still healthy.

I would certainly recommend a complete and manual uninstall. We need to clear out ALL files including all cache files and settings.
