Is it possible to hit ground targets with jet missiles?

I was trying it the other day on a few tanks and APCs and it doesn't appear to be effective. You have to aim your crosshair below your target so the missiles hit. Unfortunately it seems that the missiles don't appear to do any damage although you do get a visible confirmation that your missiles connected. I have blown up empty vehicles before like this though and it really does work, just not occupied ones. Perhaps it takes alot of missiles to down an occupied vehicle?

    EDIT:

I tried this again recently and it worked! I was pounding the ground in an F35 when I came across an APC. I swooped down on him and shot 3 missiles at him and the last one killed him! Now some people may say "why not just use your bombs"?. It is actually a logically better choice to use up all your bombs and missiles before you go all the way back to the airstrip to reload. This will maximize your effectiveness per reload. This was one of the main reasons I tried to perfect this technique because I hate going back to the airstrip with a full clip and 0 bombs. As for the missiles themselves: I think they are a bit more powerful than the attack chopper missiles but even one direct hit from a jet missile will hurt and scare a tank.

i have hit infantry directly and it has done nothing so i dont think they even hurt stuff on the ground

Hmm. What a pity. It's so much easier to hit ground armor units with the missiles too, for me anyway.

Maybe you should just stick to killing friendlies with the US ESSEX and "n00b"-ejector, the learning curve is far less. And I know learning is something you have trouble with, bitvomit.

Its possible, but luck based, since missiles tend to go their own way after you fire them.

If nothing is around their flight path seems still random, but when they do hit they hurt.

Exactly how much I dont remember, but I remember getting killed by a hovering F35B friendly once while in a tank.

It's not really random. I've gotten the aiming of dummy missiles down to an artform now. I can hit any ground armor or jets with them as long as I am lined up right and have my crosshair aimed below the target (ground targets only. your missiles go exactly where you aim them at if for instance you are directly behind another oblivious pilot which results in a .1 sec lock on warning for them until they get blown out of the sky by dummy missiles :)). Turning your jet sideways gives you much higher accuracy though because the missiles do exit from the side of your jet although you have a higher chance of crashing if you're not a good pilot. The missiles won't go off course even if you do get a lock. The only times they go off course are when you get the second lock on signal or if you shoot your missiles and you get the second lock on signal while they are traveling in the air.

However, I'm still not sure whether or not the dummy missiles do damage to ground targets or not. I know for sure you can blow choppers and jets out of the sky with unguided missiles, but they appear to be ineffective against ground armor most of the times that I have tried it. It may just be that I did not get enough hits to score a kill though. On a few occasions I have shot 2-3 missiles at apcs and strafed back around the target to see that the apc turned into a charred wreck but I did not get a kill or an assist.

Yea but those are AA missiles. Jet missiles are a bit different it seems.

it might not do any damage, but it would give me a bit of a jump if an A/A missile hit right next to me on the ground.

sorry for the *BUMP*, but I have confirmed that jet missiles do in fact hurt ground targets. read my first post.
