little help before buying a new PC

ey guys, im new here, i have been doing some searches to get more info and i think you would all recommend me go buy AMD

as you can suppose i only want it to play games, specially bf2 and its mods nothing else

now its when the fear comes to me, i have been reading some bad comments on AMD, instable (when running 2 or more heavy programs right?) , 64-bits non compatibility, overheating (which i think is fixed) and hardware/software incompatibilitys?

- 64 bits, is it true i need windows 64 bits? will old games be compatible? any other thing i should now? (im totally noob in Pc's)

-hardware software incompatible maybe i can seem to be alarmist but, i.e. daemon tools uses a different release for Pentiums and for AMD... are there more programs/hardware that are incompatible?...


once you could explain me this, i would ask you to tell me an easy web where i could see the amd releases, its $, and its equivalent into pentium to make an idea about what im buying

excuse me about poor english and about the "original" post but i love bf2 and where better to ask but here about what is the best to buy

Wherever you have been reading from has been smoking too much crack, none of those things are true at all.

You can use regular Windows XP, but you will not be using the full 64bit potential. YOu will be running in 32 bit mode.

Daemon tools doesn't use 2 releases,and there is nothing that is incompatible. Again wherever you read this has been smoking crack.

An AMD 64 3000 is the equivelent of an INTEL 3.0Ghz
3200+ = 3.2Ghz
3500+ = 3.5Ghz

and so on.

first of all dont get 64bit windows. Get 64bit processor and 32bit windows

and for BF2, 3200+ is good enough to run BF2 on all high settings and at 1280x1024 85hz

as long as you have a good video card...

When talking about operation frequencies with AMD they don't mean anything. I don't know why AMD have generally lower frequencies but from AMD themselves, they state that to get some idea of the compared performance look at the model name. 4600+ means that it might be compared to a 4.6 GHz machine + it's overclockable.
It's also socket 939 compared to 775 so you can work out the gain in the amount of data transfer.

I should have put roughly in there.

When talking about operation frequencies with AMD they don't mean anything. AMD's clockspeeds are lower because AMDs to 9 operations per clock cycle, whereas Intels to 6. That is the most significant reason.

And the + doesn't have anything to do with overclocking, it just means it surpasses the Intel in some areas.

AMD Does get alot hotter then Intel's, but this doesnt matter at all. The 64bit compatibility only occurs when u install Windows XP x64.
If u use normal Windows XP x86 then there is no problem at all

Daemon does not have different AMD and Intel releases, they have different Operating System releases. One for Normal windows and one for windows x64

AMD or Intel, the question and debate that will never die..

AMD is good for multimedia applications such as video editing, gaming, 3d animation and so on.
INTEL on the other hand r0x0rs at (like u said) multitasking, and is more for Desktop applications such as Office and Openoffice.

A motherbord will not bottlneck your processor.... Why is that the magical word lately? It was memory leak this and memory leak that, now everyone is throwing around bottleneck....
