Hotkey assignment!?

Heya!

Ok, this might sound like a stupid question, but how the hell do I change the 'Forward' key (default 'W') to 'Mouse Button 2' and 'Backwards' key (default 'S') to 'X'?

I know that the game, as most shooters do, uses the 'W' and 'S' keys for Forward and Backward actions, but I play a bit differently (obviously because I feel most comfortable playing my own way), and whenever I choose the 'Forward' action as 'Mouse Button 2', the assigned key to the 'Backwards' action (which I changed to 'X') simply disappears/is cleared out.

Why can't I use my mouse for going forward and my 'X' key to go backwards!? :cry:

Hoping to get some newbie help. :)

Don't know what to say. <shrug>

You go to the Options menu and then Controls. For each input mode (common, foot, vehicle, air, etc.), click on the "box" you want to update, and at that point, the next input (be it keyboard or mouse click) will be assigned to that action. (Press ESC to clear the assignment.)

The only problem is that you'll frequently get a "Duplicate Key Assigned" error. If that happens, you'll either need to maticulously go through each tab and clear the key/mouse-click you are wanting to assign, or just open up the Controls.con file and remove all references there.

When all is done, don't forget to click on the Apply button down in the lower right-hand corner.

Well, like I stated, I suppose you can always manually edit your Controls.con file directly in a text editor.

For instance, for your forward movement, you would change...

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAltSprint IDFKeyboard IDKey_W 1000 0

to something like...

ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_PIAltSprint IDFMouse IDButton_2 0 0

Just make sure "IDButton_2" isn't already assigned to something else.

The only reason I can think of that your in-game changes don't stick is maybe because the Controls.con file somehow got changed to read-only. <shrug>

Umm... Maybe I didn't understand your question (because the solution seems a bit too easy), just go to the Setting->Controls. Then click the W or the Blank space next to Move Forward then press (or click) whatever new assignment...

Cool, I'll try that. Do you know what the key im the control.con file is for the 'Backwards' action?

Make sure you clear the assigned key before making a new one. X is the key for something else so you'll need to clear it first.

Not sure if this is the same thing but i have heard numerous times that there is a bug that prevents you from assigning movements (forward,backward,left,right) to your mouse buttons.

That would definately be a good reason for why I'm having this bloody issue! :)

I have the following setup:

Forward: right mouse button
Backward: left side mouse button
Strafe left/right: comma & fullstop

Don't have trouble assigning movements to the mouse, but I cannot use the Q / communications menu while moving forward
