ok, just going out and buying an nvidia card isnt going to do crap the x800 is an awesome card and serves up many of nvidia cards in benchmarks.

Ah, the ATi card that he has is fine. I can grind quite a bit out of even my old 9600 AIW Pro, so an x800 ought to work just fine.

CPU is the bottleneck for sure. The only trouble is, to get a big gaming CPU you'd need a new mobo and lots of those only have PCI express, but it's easy enough to find one with an AGP slot. Maybe look into getting one of those mobos with an AGP and PCI-E slots so it's set for future upgrades.

I have a socket A what i got to run battlefield is a 2800+ xp put in 2x1ghz ram 3200 and updated video geforce 6600 256 ram APG runs nice setting on med and a few on high.

Thanks for all the replys folks, I'm going to invest in a new m/board+cpu on my budget i'll opt for a 3200+ Athlon 64 Socket 939 & get another 1 gig of ram - Should solve alot of issues ^ ^

Ever think about getting an Opteron setup? The 146 Opteron is about the same price as that 3200+ 64, $189 off http://www.zipzoomfly.com and they have a larger L2 Cache, plus they are generally mad overclockers (if you do that).

The socket 754 Semprons are miles ahead of the Athlon XPs. Also the 3500+ IS NOT a San Diego core, it is Venice. The San Diegos start at the 3700+.

I'd pay the tenner extra. If you are a gamer though I get a AMD 64 NOT a sempron. Semps suck for new games and REALLY suck at HDTV decoding {not important for most poeple yet but will be...}, the AMD 64's are fine for both.

No joke, put a 7800 Gt and a XFI on your todo list as well. Also depending how long till you buy keep an eye on the x2 AMD's, more and more game can now use the x2's properly and they are dropping in price.

From stats im seeing the above would out perform a FX 55 in some of the new games coming, BF2 gets no kick from a x2 yet but SS2 and Quake 4 do and many other new titles are starting to work better on x 2 processors.

As long as you get a half decent 939 Mo Board you can always upgrade though.

also, sort of off topic, arent the cat 5.13 drivers bad for bf2? maybe you should try rolling back some (of course if the 5.13 ARE the bad ones) it might help some.

The extreme ones are technically not that bad, I'm using them with improved performance and very little lag. However the normal cat 5.13's did give artifacts as did the 5.12. The most stable are the 5.11's.

Whereas they're not the worst I've ever used, even the tweaked NGO 5.13 drivers I tried didn't work good for BF2. For me, even the latest Warcat drivers (which only support CCC now, which I can never get to work anyway) don't run BF2 as fast as the Warcat 5.11 drivers. I'm using the 5.11's for now, paired with that DXTweak, and I get a great picture with 40fps.
