Currently i am using a Plantronics headset i got over a year ago, it did fine until recently i think i may have pulled at it too hard and the wire may have come loose. This has resulted in People not hearing me when i speak into the mic.

I am considering buying a good new headset from logitech.
The current headset has one of those gold connectors which connect to the sound card. One connector for the mic and the other for the stereo output sound. The speakers in the headset work fine its just the mic does not, in game i sound very quiet, so i have to hold the mic on my lips before i can speak. This is very inconvient.

Do you think i should get this headset from logitech?

Or just get this usb one to rule out any probs with the jacks.

I had the same problem with my plantronics headset. other than that plantronics are great.

I would almost always go for a USB headset. They are a little more pricy but almost always give better quality becayse some sound cards just dont work well with mics.

That first mic also looks like it has a very short plastic mic. Those tend to be very bad at picking up sound unless you hold the mic right in front of your mouth. My replacement mic (logitec) has that problem so i have to wear them upside down around my neck so i can get the mic in front of my mouth. I'd go with something that has a long foam covered mic.

I got the logitech 250 myself. Also with USB connection. I'm pleased with it. Just plug it in before you start up BF2 and your good to go. Sound and mic are good in my opinion. Went for a USB connection because i think it is more conveniant.

I got the logitech one just before crimbo. On my old system the demand on the RAM (512Mb) made the game unplayable. Now I have a 2Gb system and it works just fine. Sound isn't great but playable.

I would not recomment getting anything other than a Sennheiser PC150 or PC160 headset for gaming purposes.
The sound you get with those is so much better.

USB is a good choice only if:
- you don't have a decent sound card
- you don't have front side plugs for audio
- you don't want to leverage the in game sound settings
- you don't want to switch plugs between speakers and headset
- you don't want the game to sound as good as it can

Stick with standard audio through your sound card. Buy Plantronic audio 90s from amazon for less than $20.

Set your game to hardware sound, high quality, and EAX (if applicable). Bypassing your card for USB convenience is a complete waste.

I use Sennheiser PC150's and I must say they are great. SO far it's been 14 months and no problems what so ever. I was tired of the Logitech and Plantronics breaking after only 3-6 months of use. I might add that I am very careful will all my electronics, I don't abuse or harshly treat anything related to my computer or consoles.

i recently found out that the logitech PS2 usb headset works on pc as well, but it only has one earpeice and the sound is crappy.. is there a way to make it like socom, where the sfx and such comes out the speakers like normal, and only viop through the headset? i had to scrounge to get this new gaming rig, and currently cant afford even a crappy mike/phones set.

I have an Audigy2 ZS sound card and it does support a mic fine. I was wondering if with a USb headset does that seperate the VoIP from the game. Meaning the game audio will play thru the sound card and the VoIP will go thru the USb headset?

Must be a typo. Surely you must be joking. With a rig like yours (including a pretty good soundcard), you would be a fool to use a USB headset. Even with the best DSP chips, a USB headset is a joke compared a good sound card and a cheap standard headset. Spend more money on the headset and it gets better.

I use an X-Fi Extreme music with a pair of Sennheiser PC150.
Do not use USB if you have a soundcard built in.
USB is only useful during the time you are waiting for your newly ordered soundcard

And PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM LOGITECH HEADSETS. THEY SUCK. Period.
Go into a good store and try different Sennheiser models. I know they are a bit more expensive, but well worth every single cent.
