Value of Spotting

I've noticed that folks seem to be getting lazy about spotting stuff via the commorose these days.

This is a friendly reminder about how important spotting is! :)

When you see a tank, a plane, or a bunch of troops, it's damned helpful to the team if you spot 'em! Especially if you can't do anything about 'em. By spotting, you will let teammates in the area know to look out for or hunt whatever it is. Many deaths can be avoided by one player spotting an incoming 'Hawk or camping tank. When you spot incoming troops before taking a shot at 'em, if they manage to kill you, your teammates will be sure to return the favor.

Dont' forget that your commander can see things you spot too. This info can be very valuable and get you some close attention.

Even when on voice it still helps to see things on the mini-map. If you're manning a gun on a chopper, spot A LOT! You've got a better view of the field than your mates. If an enemy attack chopper starts coming after you, spot him for sure! It's a BIG help to the pilot to know where the threat is (it's really easy to loose track of bogies).

Yeah, in a dogfight, if your my WSO, stay heads up and point out the aircraft if he gets on our six! Mavericks aren't going to do any good against a fighter!

yes a very important thing in playing bf2 is spoting to let everyone know were hte enemy is so you can send in people to help take acre of them or an artillery strike

When I play as a groundpounder, I try to spot planes & chopper whenever they pass overhead, that is, provided I'm not engaged with enemy troops. This way, my buddies in the air, be they fighterpilot or bomber, or battletaxi drivers know where potential threats are.

When I play with other -=|MiF|=- clan mates and pilot the battletaxi or the attack bird, I often ask them in TeamSpeak "Spot that helo please" whenever I have time to do so and I can assure you I love those friendly spotters on the ground. I love them even more when they spot a nice fat tank tin can bothering them. This way you know where you can help the most your buddies by raining death on their tormentor...

I also recommend, if you can manage it fast enough, spotting enemies you are about to engage. That way, if you die, your teammates can deal with the remaining troops and prevent a CP capture.

Spotting big things like armor or jets is just as important as a single infantry. I usually spot stuff I can't kill. And sometimes I'll spot something to help myself. If a guy is running behind a building I will spot him then run up and gun him down since I know exactly where he is. Very good tactic to use.

I try to do that as often as possible, especially if I'm rolling with a squad. Spotting any type of armor or aircraft is a good things as well, and not enough players do it.

An (obvious) tip for commanders: if one of your flags goes grey and you are out of scans and uav's, just click spotted on the CP and it will automatically spot them for you ... 7 times out of ten it will be one or two lowly infantry men...

No, really. I feel that the above line is the normal on the field.
Even if you have a target in your sights, even a man on foot. SPOT IT IN!. If you dont, you might die; then its gonna be trouble.
Spot it in for yourself, then you got a beep on ya radar to help you if they starting running out of sight.
Too many times I have died spotting in stuff, that I can, and can not deal with. I feel my death is worthwhile this way.
So if your all alone at a flag when a tank comes rolling up. Keep it spotted. Remember it will go off the radar after a while, so make sure you spot it again and hope some friendly tank will come to your aid instead of racking up their score at a opposing flag point.

O, and DONT spot things in if your close enough for them to hear you.

GOOD POST! It's always good to know where your enemy is if he goes out of visual range. Spotting only takes half a second and is EXTREMELY useful to yourself and your teammates! I wish more players would realize this. :\

Dice should have made spotting easier.

• spotting doesnt work through fence, grass, trees, bushes ... any transparen texture
• for some odd reason ZOOMING point blank on a tank often results in a generic enemy spotted message (you knon .. the one with the questionmark) while unzoomed at the exatly same spot will result in the correct "tank spotted" message
• everyone hears / feels spammed by com messages ... there is no need for me to hear that there is a foot soldier on the very other end of the map
• while spotting there is a good chance that you spot and/or fire one round od ur current weapon and thus waste valuable ammo or give your possition away

Quite a while ago I suggested doubletapping the com key should result in a enemy spotted message - just to assure that you dont accidentially hit any other buttons or pop a AT missile and blow your cover .. whos with me?
