hi, everytime i join a game it takes alot of time to verify my client data...by the time i get into an actual game poeple have already got 2-3 kills even when we started downloading the game at the same time poeple seem to be in the map way before me... my question was is there any possible way to cut down on the verifying client data time?? and i know it is not downloading the actual map because that part only takes about 30 seconds.

Yes, the varification of your client data takes a long time. It's a fact, cant really do much about it, other than geting better hardware. -

i think my harware is very good...i have all my settings on high and it performes perfictly....but the thing is that poeple are in the game way before i am and it doesnt seem like its just a couple poeple in the game before me its everyone...does everyone just have super computers or something i dont understand....Originally posted by D|ssoYes, the varification of your client data takes a long time. Re: Verifying Client Data....
Defragging your harddrive will help (if you haven't done it for a while). A friend of mine was taking several minutes to verify and after a defrag it was greatly improved.Comment

Re: Verifying Client Data....
It doesn't take as long if you play on unranked servers. also make sure you play on low ping servers, and make sure you defrag your computer regularlyComment

Determine "good"? How much memory??Originally posted by D|ssoYes, the varification of your client data takes a long time. It's a fact, cant really do much about it, other than geting better hardware.
512 mb memory = pain in the ass, get some coffee while waiting
1 gb memory = verifying takes some time (under 1 min)
2 gb memory = Super fast verifying (under 30 seconds)
Simply.. get more memory! Better chances of getting vehicles like tank/helicopter since you sooner in than others.

oh ok so its memory that will make it go faster...sorry im not very good with compters...thank you very much....also is that the only way to make it go faster or is there other things you can do....and sorry to the others i dont know what defraging your computer means..Originally posted by MarkoMakelaDetermine "good"? Re: Verifying Client Data....
No need to be sorry ... we all gotta learn somehow.Originally posted by BaM....and sorry to the others i dont know what defraging your computer means..
Over time, the files get written/deleted to/from your hard drive and they become fragmented - spaced out over the disk. When files are spaced out over the disk it take longer for the hard drive to read them.
Defragging means it will move the pieces of your files physically around on the disk to bunch them all up together which makes reading quicker.
To do this, open explorer, right-click on C drive and select "Properties". Click on the "Tools" tab, then click "Defragment Now". The when the app open, click "Defragment". WARNING: This may take a while to perform (depends on your disk size and how fragmented it is) and will probably require rebooting before the process takes place.
The benefit is that Windows and all apps will run faster (assuming you are fragmented).
Hope this helps.

oh ok thank you very much....actually i think my dad does this often with the computer....lol i guess i should be asking him these questions...after all he did build this computer himself :)Originally posted by PiddyNo need to be sorry ... we all gotta learn somehow.

Re: Verifying Client Data....
Verifying Client Data is an MD5 Checksum test run on your bf2 files to check for integrity. factors controlling the speed of this are mainly hardware, in order of importance, hard drive access speed, memory speed and amount, and cpu speed. defragging is a very good way to reduce some time without having to buy new hardware, I in fact defrag with diskeeper before each bf2 session. also, reducing the number of background apps you have running helps, and never have antivirus or anti-spyware apps running while playing bf2 is a factor, but the only way to really significantly reduce the time is to buy high speed drives(western digital raptors or scsi drives), run 2gb of high speed low latency ram, or get a faster cpu. I and the other few in my clan that run raptors are always the first on the map, but we of course wait for our slower brothers to join

Re: Verifying Client Data....
Good, then go ask your dad to check if you have more room left for another gig of RAM.
RAM indeed is the component that should effect loading times such as this. 1 gig should be the minimum, go for 2 gigs if you have the money.Comment

i notice it varries on different servers. one server i like to frequent verifys rather quickly, less than a minute. others will take 1-2 minutes, all of which are ranked servers.Comment

Re: Verifying Client Data....
I have 2GB of RAM and takes me ages to verify client data.
When you increase your video settings more it will take more to verify client data. this is a fact that I verified.
the only way to get a faster loading time is to get a better cpu.
those MD5 checksum calculations are cpu intensive calculations. no need for faster hard drive or anything else.
As I stated in another post: I have a friend who has a VERY similar computer to mine. the only difference is the CPU. he is almost always the first to get in the game... and I am always late. His cpu is Athlon 4400+ dual core and mine is 4000+ single core.Comment

Re: Verifying Client Data....
Verified it where? Video settings have nothing to do with the verify process. The server is running an MD5 hash check on files in your BF2 folder, and nothing else.Originally posted by [DUCKS]Black_Duck_1When you increase your video settings more it will take more to verify client data. this is a fact that I verified.
Hard drive access time certainly does impact the verifying process, which you would know if you had a Raptor to go with your 2 Gb of RAM. I verify in 25 seconds, no more than that, and I run a Barton 3200+.
If it you many minutes to verify, get better hardware, or play on servers without the "green monitor icon" to the left of the server name. These servers don't have verification enabled, because they run Linux, or Linux 64 bit OS.Comment

Re: Verifying Client Data....
So THATS what the green moniter meant. Care further evaluating upon its function and relation? Why would running Linux/64 have any effect on whether verification is needed?Originally posted by goof72If it you many minutes to verify, get better hardware, or play on servers without the "green monitor icon" to the left of the server name. In fact, what IS the verification checking in the first place?Comment
