Heya, I've decided that I'm going to create a futuristic Battlefield 2 mod with a unique setting and multiple factions. The basic premise behind it is that the Human race has created two intelligent lifeforms, Genans, who are genetically altered humans that share traits with animals and monsters of legend, and Mekans, who are mechanical beings with a human brain (Sometimes the brain of a person who used to be human, and sometimes just a genetically created brain). I plan to add all sorts of neat sci-fi things. Also, the setting will span the planets of the Solar System (And their moons).
I'm planning for five factions total, starting off with two, The Gaian Council, who will feature an army that will resemble Futuristic Knight Templars, complete with Lances that shoot lasers and swords that emit energy waves as you swing them, and the Venus Confederacy, who are more of a rag tag bunch of freedom lovers who wish to rid themselves of Earth's (Now renamed to Gaia) oppressive ways. The story will progress from there to include the Genans and Mekans (Who will probably be difficult to model), as well as the Jovian Empire. I want the game to have a rich backstory, I think that is as important as anything else in a mod, as it helps immerse the players in a world very different than their own.
Besides the setting, the real goals of this mod is to create something different from what the standard FPS generally is. I want to impliment (fun) space battles, variability in equipment (I want flashy and fun weapons that haven't been imagined, or at least aren't very conventional), and classes that are different in ways besides walking speed, weapon loadout and armor levels. One thing I definately want to do is balance this mod like an RTS game rather than like an FPS game, which means I want each side to feel fundementally different (Instead of each side having comperable weapons, vehicles and equipment) while still keeping things balanced. This is obviously very hard to do, but balancing things is pretty much my main talent so I feel like I'm up to the task. Some other ideas I have include dynamic map rotation (If side A wins a map, the next map will be different than if side B wins the map, I hope this way it'll make people feel like they are making a difference by winning a battle, and also the story will give something to read during the loading screen at least =P) and an alternate stats system complete with unlocks.
What I need are dedicated people for my staff. What is of primary importance now in the initial planning stages are creative minds who are talented at concept art and webmastering. I also of course need the usual of coders (Especially people who can teach coding to others), skinners, modelers and mappers. It's important that everyone on staff has a creative mind and many ideas that they'd like to share. I also plan to heavily involve the community once a site is set up. I love hearing other people's feedback and ideas.
Please post if you are interested.
