Critically wounded vs. dead?

Is there a way to tell if a player is critically wounded vs. dead?

If he is dead, there won't be any "revive" indicator above him and his body will likely disappear within seconds.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most explosions kill if they're dead on.

Actually there is a bug in which there is no indicator but you can still revive them.

Like Bobcat said secondly, "their body would probably disappear within seconds".
