Reserved slots are completely functional, for both ranked and unranked servers. Most servers don't put them to use though.

Thanks for clarifying that. Being that these Wan-kers from EA dont have any instr. on how to do anything as far as admin commands or setting up reserved slots im lost on this situation. Cant seem to get our reserved slots to work. Any links out there that any one knows of would be appreciated. For now I will have to keep looking online. And for the tossers @ EA... good job!!

I recommend getting BF2CC installed on your server. It's the best tool possible for server admins, in my opinion. One of the things it handles is reserved slots.

Reserved slots work - but they are garbage. Here is how they work:

You reserve slots for Players A and B on a 16 person server.

Players A and B are playing on the server along with 12 other players from the web.

Player Y tries to join the server and they cannot because they are not on the reserved list (and they get a message that says so).

Player A leaves the server and goes to take a crap. Player Y is now able to join (server shows 12/14)

Player A comes back and logs into the server and starts to play again like nothing ever happened (server at 13/14 players)

Player Z sees 13/14 and tries to join - but cannot - because he is not on the reserved list.

Sooo - bottom line - if you have reserved slots on your server - you will never have it full, unless the people on your reserved list are the last ones to join the server. It is a stupid stupid stupid setup. It should recognize players on the reserve list already on the server - and not hold a spot for them.

All the instructions for reserved slots and how they work came in the patchnotes for the 1.03 patch which included the feature. Did you read tham?

That is pretty sad that the system does not recognize players already in the game. I personally prefer a smaller server to play in because it seems more fun to me. The maps seem to go for longer periods of time, (although there will be a canning every now & then) but I have issues with keeping track of the 24 players that we have now let alone if we had 64. We had a 16 player server that we have just upgraded to 24. All we want to do is to set aside 6 or so slots for admins & supporters so they can come in anytime without an admin having to kick players. Thanks for the replies fellas, and any other comments are welcome. Im sure we'll get this straitened out. Hopefully.

I saved the patch but somehow misplaced it after installing it. Ill redownload the patch and take a look at the notes. Thanks.

reserving slots sucks .. I have ZERO in my favorites .. when it comes time to get into my own server I wait until a round ends, then see if people drop. If nobody does someone gets kicked .. usually least amout of time in or worst score of previous round

Re: Reserved Slots for Ranked Servers?

I set up our 24 slot ranked server with 6 reserved slots via Cortex and the slots show in the online game browser like this 24(6), then I added the player names I wanted to use in the file reservedslots.addnick so it looks like this.

                      reservedSlots.addNick "rizla"

I added around 10 names for the slots, it says you can have more names than slots available.

Restarted server and it allows anyone into those slots they are not reserved for some reason. So I loaded my original config file to get the server back to normal, restarted it then repeated the steps above but used BF2CC to add the slots and names etc... Restarted server and the same thing happened again it is allowing all 24 slots to fill with public players. Even though it shows 24 (6) reserved they are all public slots.

Any help on this would be great before I completely lose what little of my mind I have left.
