LCD monitor and BF2 loading probs

My new lcd monitor (Dell 2005fpw 20.1" widescreen) arrived yesterday, and I was about to break it in with a round of BF2, yet the darn game wont load anymore.

What happens is, with my DVD for BF2 in the drive, I click on the executable shortcut on my desktop. I hear the DVD rotate, the ea BF2 logo appears, the screen goes all black, sits for 1-2 seconds, then returns to my desktop.

I tried to run the game by double clicking on the DVD, same thing happens as listed above.

I researched various forums, which some noted to change the target string. I did that also and changed mine to;
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1

I also re-installed the newest ATI X800 video card drivers (5.13) and reboot my system. Oh, and I am also using the DVI-D port from my monitor to video card if that helps.

Any possible solutions?

Sounds like a directx problem or something similar I had a similar problem with the commandos game.

BF2 is expecting your old monitor and when it doesn't find it, BF2 decides to shut down.

The crude way of fixing this is to delete the /my docs/bf2/ folder but this removes favourites and any key settings you may have changed.
I'm sure someone will be able to tell you exact file to modify but if you want to play RIGHT NOW then just get rid of that folder and retrive your account to play again.

Actually, the solution I just thought of was to switch from DVD-D to D-Sub cable and it worked.

I heard that the DVI-D provided a crisper image, yet since I couldn't get it to comply with BF2, I guess Dsub will be find for me.

Err, great that it's working but DVI-D is better (IMHO) and it only takes seconds to delete the folder...

I'd much rather use the dvi-d cable too, however it wouldn't work. I tried to delete the video.con files x2, yet it didn't seem to work, whereas the dsub or vga connection did the trick.

I had the same problem. A reinstall of BF2 fixed it.

Thank you all for your tips and help. Problem solved.
I'd recommend not to edit the target of the shortcut. Leave it well enough alone, unless, and only unless you plan on using a screen size that is not listed within the list of assorted screen sizes in bf2 options.
The solution for me was simple. Basically, delete the video.con file, then start up bf2. Once started and the default variables were loaded, then change the screen resolution to whatever you want, but make sure it's at 60hz. OR edit the file in notepad and change the screen resolution.
VideoSettings.setResolution 1360x1024@60Hz (make sure it's 60hz)
Then you should be good to go. Oh, and I am now using the DVI-D cable with no problems, unlike earlier.

when i right-click windows doesnt give me a "open with.." option. it will on any other file i right-click on.

yeah, i tried that. had to go into the properties and tell it waht to open with. i got it under control now and it looks spectacular on the LCD w/ the DVI. Thanks for the help
