An uncapturable base vs uncapturable base map?

The idea just struck me and I wanna bounce it off you folks.

What would you think of a map that was 2 opposing uncaptuable bases with no CPs in between? With nothing to capture, the game type changes by default. The only way to win is through raw kills. I essance, it would become a BF2 version of team deathmatch.

I donno... it could be fun. As little as I like deathmatch style play, the idea of having the deaths of the other team be your only goal could a giggle.

Maps could be big or small. It doesn't really matter.
Oh, tangent... Air war map handled this way... cool... or an Iron Assault type map... lotsa tanks... hmm.
    (I'm rambling publicly)
    Whatcha peoples think?

Yeah I could kinda see this working, I'm picturing a large map with a natural barrier between both sides, rivers, valleys, the ability to flank with tanks and such....

I never understood why DICE never included DM, TDM, TKOTH, etc. It would have been great to see BF2 with king of the hill.

I think that most people would hate it.

I can hear it now: OMFG SP4WN CAMPING F4GS!

Seriously though, the bases would have to be quite large so that spawn points could be spread out enough to lessen the chances of someone just placing C4 on a spawn site and just killing people as they spawn.

This would be the biggest obsticle to overcome. Since there are no other objectives to spread out the focus of attacks. The map could have no airpower or tanks I would imagine.

I think it could work. Again though, people would have to be able to respawn in buildings, or protected areas instead of just out in the middle of a field or something.

i would hate to be the ground-pounder who makes his way towards the enemy base only to get gunned down by a chopper. 5 minute walk for nothing. this is why i love having bases spread out that are a sort of "check point" that are closer to my destinations.

I'm thinking of a large desert map with a mountain or vally in the middle cutting it in two. You can drive around the mountain/vally with tanks but it's slow or take them through which is faster but more dangerous. Spawn points could be huge. A army barracks for example where even a load of spawncampers cound't hope to keep pinned down.

And yeah, the distance that people would have to travel from one UCB to the other would be so big that they would be almost bound to run into trouble. No airpower though IMHO.

I was actually thinking about this iwth an urban map I'm making. Take the focus off the flags and put it onto the combat. I still dunno if I wanna do it. I'd rather give a choice on whether or not to play it as a deathmatch, than to force it.

Maybe that's something better for just the 16 player version of the map?

I like the idea, "Just for kills" sounds like fun. But its going to sux badly if you constantly keep getting killed when trying to spawn. Imagine dying when your base is surrounded & the rest of your team is less than useful. Your going to spawn and be killed within 2 seconds, repeat that 20 times in a row. That would not be fun.

Everyone would cry baserape and kickvote each other off, so it won't work.

Yup, I agree. This is why it would have to be a well made map. You comments about spawning inside buildings and such is something I've given some thought to as well.

Definatly, there would have to be many, many more spawn locations, and significantly spread out. You could have more than one CP too. They're just all be uncapturable.

Yeah, I hear ya. There's a couple ways of looking at this tho. It puts much more focus on the squads. Being able to spawn off your SL would be a bigger deal, as would keeping him alive. Large maps set up this way would have to be played tactically if you're going to do well at all. 1 lone grunt humpin it is just going to end up as a lost ticket.

hmm in essesence it would be a TDM map nice.., yeh like was mentioned, have to have a well made map .., maybe paradrop spawn points too? PLENTY of cover everywhere for ground troops .., maybe tunnels etc.

I think it is a bad idea.. just more of those spawnrapers.... UNless of course these uncapturable base maps were infantry based...

Then it all comes down to who has the fastest computer to get in the game first and setup camp on the other spawn first.

In theory it sounds like a good thing - but it would just turn ugly on pub servers with spawn camping.

It would only take a few rounds to find out where each of the spawn points were - then run over there with jeeps or other vehicles and park them on a couple of them, forcing them to only pop out of a couple different spawns and you could just farm kills like crazy. You would kill them as they spawned with not even an option to take a step or change weaps before they died.

I think it would just turn ugly fast.

It would only work if there was a way for EA/DICE to allow completely random spawn points - not just a selected number of spawn pts per base that you randomly pop out on.

In my 'dream' map if someone managed to get a tank from one UCB and drive for let's say 3 minutes to get to the other UCB then they would almost deserve to baserape. It would be so difficult due to the map design that it almost wouldn't be worth it.

The majority of the fighting would take place towards the center where if one decides to take all it's tanks to baserape then all the infantry it leaves behind get mowed down....

Think of Op Clean Sweep and spread spawn locations all over the northern part of the map so that if your base was raped then it would take more than the entire other team to lock it down fully.

How about making these bases a little harder to get into, like in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory? A tank could get close but with lots of mounted TOWS and the exit behind the base so that the enemy would have to face 3 sides of fire before being able to get into it.
