    Battlefield 2 Training

Does anyone agree that it would be cool if a really nice training course was made, a la America's Army, maybe? Or just a simple hazard course, something like CS had. As long as it was made popular enough for nubs to get their hands on. Things like flight training are desperately needed, I'm so sick of getting in a chopper with some idiot that doesn't know up from down. Plus, I'd probably just have some fun with it as a vet.

Never have much luck with search so I apologize in advance if this has been done before, which it most likely has, but opinions..?

    Increasing Singleplayer Bots

To increase the number of bots used in singleplayer mode, go to your \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\AI directory and open the file aidefault.ai with Notepad or Wordpad (make sure to create a backup copy of it first). Read the instructions in the file which basically involves placing the word REM in front of each of the first 5 lines starting with 'aiSettings.set', then removing the REM's in front of the next 4 lines starting with 'aiSettings.set'. Change the number at the end of the aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32 line to determine the number of bots to use (e.g. aiSettings.setMaxNBots 64 for 64 bots). Note that more bots can really stress your system and hence destabilize it, causing a crash back to desktop - particularly for those with older CPUs. For example, 64 bots on most systems will cause a crash.
    Summary:
    Goto: \Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\AI
    Edit: aidefault.ai
    Set: aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32 to aiSettings.setMaxNBots 0

Use this tweak to set your bots to 0 and load up a singleplayer map, and it should be bot-free so you can practice freely. Maybe set bots to 1 if you need to... I've not tried this myself yet. Will report back later incase you don't try it yourself.

    Best of luck.

      PS-
Yes, BF2 should have an official 'Practice Map'. It would be an empty map with quick spawning land and air vehicles. Permanent crates or infinite ammo, infinite kits (so you can switch between practicing different roles) as and when you wish.

And a target range to practice your accuracy and weapon damage.

n it should come from DICE!

      Just a thought.

It's a sweet idea and all, but most noobs just want to get into the action and ask questions later.
Most can't even be bothered to listen to the blahblahman telling his tale of ENTER VEHICLE WITH ENTER VEHICLE KEY the first time and instead choose to stand for literally entire rounds in front of a buggy, furiously spamming the chat with "HOW U ENTAR VEICHLE?!11111".
I usually stab them in the face.

As a noob I would've appreciated a shooting, and especially BOMBING / choppering range so exceedingly much, instead of trying to figure it out on an empty regular map, using the enemy transport chopper as a target.

What he's suggesting is that passing training would be mandatory. This is the way it was in America's Army.

Or they should make a map like DC's famous "DC NO FLY ZONE" and "DC NO FLY ZONE DAY2" !

Exactly. You could work it out so that in order to fly an air vehicle, you need a sort of licence, and the only way to aquire said licence is to complete an offline training course that teaches you the basics.

Harsh maybe, but horrible pilots aren't fun and aren't realistic- a game has to tip the scale on one of those directions, right?

That's a great idea, I also cringe hopping into a heli only to find we go about 10ft then crash, no license and you can't fly it.

I like the idea, but not to force it on people. I hated the stupid obstacle course in AA. I couldn't pass this one section because I didn't do it exactly the way they wanted it done. Was very frustrating.

I like the idea as on option. Rainbow Six: Raven Shield has one for the weapons and I believe so did Joint Operations. Single player is a good way to practice, but not really to get familiar with and test out weapons and vehicles.

Yeah that would be a great idea, wish they had chopper and airplane instructors cos sometimes its hard to learn on your own without some points being made.
