    Killin planes

Ok peoples. I've got to say something on the subject of overpowered air craft.

Ya know what the best thing for killing planes is?
    OTHER FRUGGIN PLANES!

If you don't want your team to get owned by airpower, use your planes to clear the skys! Every single map I've played on that was being dominated one sided by air power, the loosing side still had fighters in the air bombing tactically useless positions. If these guys would refocus on hitting the enemy air assets (no, I don't mean on the ground), you'd see a big change in the flow of the battle.

I tested this the other night. I was playing Wake Island on the Chiniese side. We were getting smaked around perty bad. A plane spawned near me so I figured what the hey and jumped in. I went gunning for enemy planes. Now, I'm not a great pilot. I still don't have a joystick and flying with the mouse is not something I enjoy. This is why it came as a shock to me when I was able to totally disrupt the enemy's air domination in short order. I didn't even kill too many of 'em. Just the fact that I was chasing 'em around was enough to keep 'em off the backs of my team's ground punders long enough the retake all the flags.

    SO
Use them fighters! Dog fight! Clear the damned skys and you won't get owned.

I'm so looking forward to fixed AA missiles. It's gonna make air to air a really nasty thing.

So true. Take those fighters, and go after the other bombers, fighters, helos in that order, and save your bombs... for when you may need to swoop in and stop a flag from flippin while your ground forces are busy across the map for example. Constantly engage those pilots that are focusing on nothing but scoring easy bomb kills and just watch how fast they will A: stop bombing, B: die at your hands, or C: quit flying alltogether in frustration... >8)

      Re: Killin planes

The gag is that I consiter myself to be a fairly rotten pilot (as I mentioned). Yet lowly little no-air-skills me was able to turn the tables in the balance of airpower simply by using my plane for it's intended roll rather than whoring to my almighty score.

Since that round, I've been watching the skys more closely. Every time we're getting baddly owned by planes, I see our planes off bombing uncappables or something equally useless.

It's like there's some unspoken rule between air-jocks that they don't shoot at eachother!

your plea has merit, but no chance.
        glaucoma's law of bf2 air:
§ 1 If the enemy pilots are really damaging your team, your jets will also have been stolen by the enemy.
§ 2 If they haven't been stolen, your commander is flying the fighter circling the edge of the map, and the bomber is never getting anywhere because of the hostile fighter.
§ 3 If someone actually uses both your planes right, the enemy pilots will be so skilled that nothing can down them.

What is this fixed AA missiles you speak of?

& Personally I feel there maybe needs to be heaps more jets.

            Re: Killin planes

Dice has announced that they will be improving AA missiles. How exactly, they haven't said. I've heard rumblings of better tracking (REQUIRED!) and longer range lock ons.

Some other things they haven't consittered that would help out BIG TIME:
            - Proximaty detonated warheads. Even a near miss is gonna cause damage AND it would help get rid of lag induced pass-throughs
            - Active and passive modes on the stinger emplacments. Right click to switch between the modes. Active would be the same as they are now. In passive, you can't lock onto targets, but you can't be locked either. This would alow you to actually sit in an emplacement without firing off a "kill me NOW!" flare.
            - Maps that use the point defence gun/AA missile launcher found on the Essex for base defence. Those things are lovely, but not used enough IMHO.

Most pilots routinely strafe/nuke any stinger site anyway, manned or not.
I'd like for AA vehicles to have some temporary (10 secs at a time?) jammer, not unlike flares on air vehicles, or the smoke on armor.

Ahh cool thanks I did not know they will be "trying" to improve them again.

I lolled when I read the "kill me NOW" comment, as its too true. I love watching the SU-35's bombs coming straight for me when looking through the scope on the missiles.

                  Re: Killin planes

There's definally a balance that needs to be worked. It would be easy to make AA-missiles over-powered and render aircraft of any kind, useless.

While that might make some folks happy, I'd be choked. Not because I fly, but because it would remove a challanging aspect of the game. AA missiles can't be 100% accurate fire-and-forget weapons (even without flare deployment), but the current state is just plan 'ol borked.

Side note: Those missiles aren't quite as baddly borked as some people think. I have managed to do some damage to enemy airforces via stinger emplacements. It's just very un-rewarding especially with the team vehicle damage/team kills you are likely to wrack up.

                    Re: Killin planes

I totally agree but there is one problem. The darn missiles seem to always hit your friends. I was flying with a buddy, I had the fighter he had the bomber. He asked me to help out with the fighter so I chased it down while it was chasing him, I hit my teammate more with the missiles than the enemy, a total bummer. But your right, you fly crazy and cant concentrate on perfect bombing runs when you have a jet on your arse all the time.

i always seem to do more damage to my own teammates because if it doesnt hit the enemy, itll go for the next target which is usually my firend and he barely gets a warning and btw , i like ur sig Metal storm

It is well known that the best players in this game are the best pilots. Those are the ones that are dominating the game with the most kills and the least deaths. Being first sergeant on the way to become sergeant major, and having all the badges, all the ribbons, and 6 different types of medals I thing I've almost mastered the game except for piloting jets, which I've been working on lately and I thing I'm becoming good pilot slowly but surely too. I even got my aerial service ribbon recently, which is the last ribbon that I was missing in BF2. The key thing is : you need joystick and few days of practise.
                          Good luck!

Ya know...I say that in every game. Why is it that when the other team is dustin ya with air...does your air not respond. Even when you ask.??? Just another reason to eliminate it. The AA in this game is dismal....a joke.

The AA is good only against a heli. Against planes ther uselless. I think if the upgrade them that there moble like part of kit u pop it open u cant lock nither can they. Also they should have faster reload times....
