Anyone else think artillery adds a nice ambience to the battlefield?

I know there's been a lot of complaining about artillery...saying how it is a no skill method of killing, or how you can't do anything about it. I'm not saying that IF these issues are true it should be kept just for the sake of ambience, however, for me, nothing makes me feel like I'm in a war more than watching artillery rain down on a group of friends/enemies. Whenever I hear the cannons fire or artillery hit the ground I really...feel the essence of the game.

This is not a thread to debate whether artillery is good or bad for the GAMEPLAY. I just wanted to know if anyone thinks it greatly adds to the "battle feel".

Does it add to the feel? Not especially. Artillery in BF2 doesn't create the duck-and-cover feeling for me. Closer to the run-to-a-safe-distance-and-watch-the-fireworks feeling. :|:

I enjoy artillery. It keeps the tension up, especially while on defence or forward flag capping.

I've always "got my ears on" and it's rare that I'm ever taken by suprise by an artillery hit. I've save my squad more than a few times by yellin "Incomming Arty!!". I really don't know how so many people miss the sound of inbound death.

And yes, I like the noise and the effect. It does make me feel like the field is a little more real... complete with random death at any moment.

I agree 100% I love the feeling arty brings. and when I am trapped under a hail of arty I always look for the closest cover. if cover is there i usually make it out alive...

I love what the arty brings to the game in terms of ambience, but if I had my way it would have a slower reload timer on it, not a whole lot... maybe 25% slower than it is currently. I really wish they would activate those laser painters that were left out of the game. Imagine getting targeting assist points for every arty kill by lighting up a hotzone with a laser. o_O

You gotta love arty! The grin on your face when your commander gets 6 kills from a single strike.

arty hardly ever bothers me. when you hear arty fire.. change your location and your almost always safe.

Yes I think arty adds a ambience. And another thing when I was running sound on low you never really heard the arty till it hit. Now that I have sound on med you can hear arty dropping from the air and about 5 secs before it hits and also sounds different. Also bullets make different noises when they hit the ground. The voices and the game sound a little different sometimes. And when someone cues up I need a medic you can tell where they are without looking at the map. It seems like the distance where they are from you will make a difference and how loud they are. I never thought taking the sound from low to high would make much of diff. I was wrong.

It always seems to hit me!! there'll be me and 5 other guys in an area none of them get hit except me. I'll get tucked way back in a corner and it'll guide its self down inbetween the building and nail me right on the head, resulting in explosive heaa trauma.

I love it when it is hitting and you enjoy the visual as it destroys your opponets. It can be difficult to survive it.

But what really affects me is the repeated desire of my opponets to experience arty. An example:

I liked the CODUO arty where everyone gets to launch some death and destruction when they get ranked up! :<

Arty is safe by me. I dont even mind getting killed from it, as long as my body get tossed far enough. Love seeing how far I can go.

the arty rocks, its an essential part of the game, and even though you might get ****ed because the instant you decide to jump off the tower arty is launched and your the only one who dies, without it, the game wouldnt feel the same.
