Any suggestions on processes to trim down?

I have 41 processes when i start windows. I wanna trim it down. Is there some program that can scan my startup processes and tell me what isn't necessary? Also what are some not necessary processes i can axe?

Read this http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=12 it'll tell ya whats safe to turn off manually also if you use Spybot S&D (everybody should) it'll give ya lots of info about whats run'n on your rig.

theres a really good site(or used to be) called black viper..if you google it i think there may still be a mirror site about somewhere..using black viper's recomendations i trimmed my proccesses down to about 13..its easy to follow...:)

does processes only use up ram? excuse me for the grammar or lack thereof, but i am in need of haste.

to play bf2 mainly, but hell, i cant spend all day on bf2 forums hehe.

i ask only because i have many running, but relatively few that i can delete (most of em say SYSTEM).

however, i have 1024 mb ram now and all of the processes use up relatively little of it. i doubt that the loss of 20 mb of ram would make a huge diff to my bf2 performance.

does anyone have advice about this?

lol using black viper i trimmed from 42 to 40, not much difference. after you change them in services.msc, do you need to get it to do something to save what you did? 2 less processes doesn't seem like much

I use this program and would recommend it since its small and free.
End it All (393kb) *good little program!
ENDITALL lets you terminate all non-essential programs for the purpose of installing new software, running finicky games, or writing to CD-Rs that need a big buffer.

Nope. It's a temporary solution. Run it prior to starting up BF2. You can 'lock' programs so end it all wont shut it down.
i.e. windows explorer and enditall itself.

removes junk from nero, windows messenger, etc.

Yes, all apps and programs use up RAM, so the more you have running, the more RAM they are using up. It is best to try and get rid of as many as you can that way you have as much free RAm as you can. I also have 1024MB of RAM, and any extra that you can get will help.

This sounds like it will help me alot. I have been getting the infamous "there is a problem with your internet connection" message alot. After lots of trial and error I found that my crap laptop will play the game without getting that message but my gaming rig won't. Simply put, this means some program is messing with my connection so maybe this will help.
