I find that the mouse with the keyboard is a great combination especially if you turn the sensitivity right up, you can do some amazing turns using the mouse.

Ive never used just the keyboard as i think the mouse gives you more sensitive control than keyboard keys.

The best tactic is to strafe sideways and use the pedal to spin around the enemy until he has fired his entire magazine of unguided missiles, then quickly dive behind cover. Have your gunner check your six so you can dodge TV-missiles. When the enemy chopper comes looking for you, let him pass beside you, quickly turn and let your gunner TV-missile him.
LoL you just keep doing this.. Easier for me and the other helicopter pilots.. you keep strafing and diving.. I keep shooting (and not missing)

Anyways this guide was way too good.. now about everyone knows what to do/practise. Well I guess it's getting harder for me then.. Atleast for now SF Attackchopper pilots suck like hell.. Thats what I've experienced. Especially with the Hind. Luckily I figured out how to fly it soon enough. (Never been brought down by another chopper in SF yet.) <- Padding my ego? Sorry.. but it's true. Get better people!

The TV guided missiles turn in the direction of your mouse click on the screen. They take a second to get oriented, so be patient or you will likely oversteer it. You can click rapidly to get it to bank hard, but really if you can click directly on a target you should head straight for it.

That said, you do need to lead moving targets with the TVs as well. Takes some practice, but here's a rough outline of what to do:

        * Check for the white text saying your missile is armed - some situations will prevent you from firing right away
        * Click once in the rough direction of your target then give it a second to line up
        * Click 2-3 times more to fine adjust, leading a moving target or directly on a stationary one
        * Try not to click just before impact as this can make it miss

When firing at enemy helicopters, try an estimate when your missile will arrive as they are perpendicular to you. This gives you a much larger target to hit. Also, as helicopters can pull up faster than they can fall down - I usually aim for the top of the rotor at first. Don't forget to use your TVs to get a peek at the other side of a map either. I like to launch one off and send it as far as possible just to see whats coming our way. Lastly, if you see blue tags at the last moment, continue to steer around them! If you leave the screen, your missile will continue straight and more likely than not cause several TKs.

How the hell do you fly sideways? What keys, mouse movement does it take?

Hmmm, When I try that I just rotate or bank the chopper. Maybe I need to get on an empty server and practice!

hmm...is flying with a joystick THAT unpopular? In my mind you absolutely NEED a joystick, then again, I've been playing flight sims since I was a teenie. Why do you think everyone is so anti-joysticks?

I actualy prefer to use the joystick because it has countless programable buttons and the throttle has a mouse bit on it.

The chopper moves whichever way the rotor is angled.

flying sideways is more about getting used to the disorienting view and paying attention to where things are around you since you can't see whats on your sides unless in a 3rd person view.

The hard part is rotating the chopper from forwards to sideways flight while keeping your airspeed up. a slow moving chopper dies quick. As you rotate you need to keep the rotor angled in the direction you want to keep moving, so you have to adjust the angle as you rotate.

Practicing around the carrier super-structure is good too since there are no other buildings to crash into. The carrier is long so its good for practicing sideways and circling. You want to make sure you practice moving both directions around the object so you are comfortable either way.

Some of the maps in SF are really lame like Ghost Town is to small for choppers.
Ya, Thats why they are getting nerfed. They need to just get rid of the choppers on the small levels. SF was supposed to be about intense ground action and at most using choppers/planes for insertion.

Thats the point. You can't really get much better without challenging yourself. I also enjoy gunning as well but it drives me crazy when the pilot is completely oblivious to everything around them. It will only get worse in 1.2.
