    Server joining problem

I was wondering if someone could help me. Each time I start Battlefield 2, the first time I try to join a server, it says connection lost, and then goes back to the server browser. After the first time it works fine, its just the first time after starting the game that it does it. Does anybody know why its doing this, and if there is a way of fixing it.
    Thanks

You need to do something on you're internet connection set-ups.
There are ports that must be opened.
For more information look on this site.

    Good luck!

I have tried allowing those ports in Windows firewall, and it still did it. I have now tried using Zonealarm, and it still does it. What I don't understand is why after I have tried joining a server once, it works after that.

Could you try without useing any firewall just to see if it works?

If you got another provider you need a new reinstal windows.
It's better by the way a fresh start is alway's good because ter maybe virisen on you're comp that not been notice.
            Just renstal windows

I haven't got a new provider, and re-installing windows seems a bit extreme, as it does work, just not the first time. I have tried it without AVG and Windows Firewall being on. I am goin through a network router, so maybe that has something to do with it?

The ports that you opened on the firewall also need to be opened on the router you know?

I'll check, but I think there already open, as I did it when I first got the game. I don't know why this would be a problem with the ports, as it joins fine after the second attempt at joining.

                    Re: Server joining problem

(Taken from EA's Technical Support Site. Hope it helps.)

Q: How do you resolve issues connecting to the servers?

                    A:
Connection issues typically are caused by one or more ports being blocked by a firewall, router, or even your Internet Service Provider to help maintain security. These ports are the doorways used to send and receive information between your computer and the server. You must configure your router/firewall to have the game's ports open in order to connect to the servers properly.
The ports for Battlefield 2 are as follows:
                    UDP ports:
                    • 27900
                    • 29900
                    • 29910
                    • 27901
                    • 55123
                    • 55124
                    • 55215
                    • 16567
                    • 1500-4999
                    TCP ports:
                    • 80
                    • 29900
                    • 29901
                    • 29920
                    • 28910
                    • 4711
You may also need to have your Internet Service Provider open these ports for you. For help configuring a firewall or router you may need to refer to the manufacturer.

                      Re: Server joining problem

Those are the ports I opened in Windoes Firewall, but I don't think it's right. I did all the single number ports, but when I tried to unlock ports 1500-4999, it said I could only put in one number. I don't have the time to go through and unlock all of those ports seperately, so I am wondering if there is another way of doing it.
Also, surely if it was a problem with the ports, then I would never be able to join a server, not just be having problems the first time.

                        Re: Server joining problem

I get the same problem, its not because of a firewall because I run BF2 without one, and its not my ISP because I have full control over just about everything.

Its just a bug, some people get all sorts of errors including ones from gamespy when trying to join a server.

So there's not much you can really do about it, and its not as if its that serious just rejoin and your fine/

                          Re: Server joining problem

OK thanks. I know its not a problem, but if I join a server from the internet using a link, then it obviously doesn't connect, which means I have to find it. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
                          Thanks for your help guys.
