Patch Trouble? Look Here for Help

Since your reading this I assume you are having patch trouble. I am writing this because I did have patch trouble and I did not like what I was reading. I think uninstalling the game and re-installing upwards of 10 times is rediculous. I spent my time on the phone with top tier tech support at EA games. I got them to call me at home and it was worth the wait. When you get one of their real engineers you get answers. Here is the straight scoop directly from EA Games.
You all know BF2 pushes PC's hard and if you are using older mobos, memory, video cards, and or older slower HDD then you are much more likely to have problems. With that said I also know that you all cannot buy thousands of dollars of new equipment just to play every new game that comes out. If you can only do a little then get a real Nvidia based 256meg video card and go to at least 2gig of ram. Trust me, you won't be sorry.
Now to the patch trouble. The best way to patch (I am not saying this is right, I don't think you should have to go to this much trouble but for right now it works) is to remove any antispyware software from your PC and antivirus software from your pc, that's right, uninstall it along with Battlefield 2. Before you reboot go to the %temp% dir and delete everything there. Then go to the Program files dir and make sure you delete the EAGames\BAttlefield 2 dir. Then go to your "My Documents" dir and delete the Battlefield 2 dir there also. Now reboot to safe mode and install Battlefield 2 and when it ask to reboot let it but come back to safe mode. Install the latest patch(note that the Eng. told me that the 1.12 patch can and should take anywhere from 6 min to 30 min. so let it run) and when it finishes reboot and test. I think you will find things are working now. You may now reinstall your antispyware software and your antivirus but you must configure to software to leave the dir's "c:\program files\eagames\" and your "My Documents\Battlefield 2" alone. Norton is rather good at it's job and it will remove some things if you don't configure it.
