    Please can you help

I have been tearing my hair out since my kids bought me this game for xmas. I've tried every single thing I know to get it running but to no avail.

I can start a multiplayer or singleplayer game no problem. But the game ALWAYS locks up, sometimes faster than others. I thought it may have been a Windows X64 problem so I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP (32bit), installed all drivers (all up to date) started the game and was horrified to see it lock up exactly the same as it did under win x64. This was a totally clean install, the only things installed where bf2 and the update patch.

I hope you guys can help because from the little I've seen of the game I really want it to run

    My system specs.
    AMD Athlon64 3400
    1GB DDR333 Ram
    Radeon X700 AGP 256mb (using catalyst 5.13)
    Soundblaster Audigy 2
    Windows XP Pro SP1

Try rolling the drivers back, many people have been having problems with the 5.13s.

Well, I uninstalled the drivers and just installed the stock ones that came with the card (catalyst 5.9) and it just did exactly the same thing. I can run around, fly a chopper etc, but 3-4mins in it just locks up then reboots.

Nothing i soverheating adn the card/system etc work fine on other games (Battlefront 2, Need For Speed Most Wanted, World Of Warcraft to name a few)

I am totally stumped, I even tried my old Radeon 9550 in there, it ran but then locked up just the same, tried it without the Audigy 2 in there with sound disabled, with all details set to min, zippo nothing going

Someone reading this may be able to help :)

      (I am forever the optimist)

      edit:
Totally uninstalled, removed all references, patches etc.
Reinstalled, game loaded now and leaving running to see what happens

Try updating your bios, punkbuster, sound and patch up to 1.12. Also optemise your virtual memory to 1.5 x amount of ram paging file.

Does the exact same to me. Freezes up constantly. Some nights I cant play at all, just freezes up 1,2,3,4,5 minutes into the game and I have to restart my computer over and over and over again. Some nights it doesnt freeze at all and plays PERFECT, and some nights it'll take quite awhile before it freezes.

I really dont understand it. Its does this with every single driver Ive tried. I updated my sound drivers the other day, which did nothing. Someone suggested cleaning off your heatsinks and fans to help with the 15fps lock issue. I did that, got it all spotless, and it still locks at 15 fps and it still freezes. Its driving me insane.

Like everyone else says, no other game I own gives me any problems whatsoever. HL2, FEAR, COD2...they run great. So what the hell?

yet my neighbour plays happily for hours with 512mb

Bios updated, punkbuster, sound, and patched with each patch and tested after each patch, virtual memory optimised.

The only thing I have noticed is that the EAsyinfo program reports the graphics card as having 512mb of ram, when every other diagnostic program (and windows itself) reports only 256mb (correct value)

Sounds like a memory problem. D/l and run Memtest86 for a couple of hours to see if you get any errors. I have a faulty stick, hell 2 actually, and I get the same thing.

I forgot to ask you if you have put every ingame vid setting to low, soundcard to low, 800x600res, see what happens then. I also noticed you are running sp1, I would get sp2 and make sure you have direct 9.0c
