If you let the entire list of ranked servers load, over half of them are empty. I think anyone that owns a server should either join up to that "getpaidtoplaybf2" thing and try that for a month. If that doesn't generate some traffic, dump your server instead of wasting cash.

I think it is a waste of money, and it is something clans bring onto themselves. My clan is one of them.
We would have more than enough people to jump start our own server, but they are too f*ckin impatient to do so and go jump on some other clans populated server instead. Which is the one of the reasons I don't play BF2 anymore, I refuse to play on someone elses server when we have a perfectly good one ourselves
And that is the same problem I see alot of clans have, the larger clans can do something about it, the smaller ones have a harder time just getting their guys on at the same time.
The other thing that helps bring people in, is your success on the leagues and/or ladders, believe it or not. It's not the determining factor, but it does make a difference. But you have to be on your server in the first place for that to take any effect. -

My clan has a couple of ranked servers (one BF2, one SF) and they're not full all the time. But the money we pay for them comes screaming back in the fact that whenever we want to play we hop in there and it fills real quick, if there are smactards and hackers we can kick 'em if some smacktard is tking or just generally being a pain we can ban them. If we don't like a map we don't play it, having your own ranked server (as long as you can fill it when you want to play it) makes the whole gaming experience that much better.Comment

I agree with you, a definite waste. I don't know why any small clan would go out of their way and pay 20 bucks a month for a unused server. Unless there was some way to make money from it (ADS, banners or something, google ads:laugh: ) They shouldn't waste itComment

Being fairly new to online game I have a lot to learn. Could someone explain leagues and ladders and where does one go to join?

If you already know what a clan is, skip this paragraph. So in order to get in a clan, you basically have to perform very good and/or be a very cool person that gets along with their members, you have to get recognized I guess you could say. League/Ladder matches are commonly referred to as Clan Matches. And they can be very fun and/or very frustrating. It requires alot of new thinking in tactics and it requires a lot more team work. You would find that the atmosphere and gameplay in a clan match is alot more organized and alot different.Comment

I think if you can populate the server its a great way of playing the maps you want with the rules and personel you want. I am currently trying to organize a server but its hard to find that many people. Maybe I need a squad but who knows what squad to join and if they will have me?
I have never been in a squad but if you play clan matches is it ranked? I heard it wasn't.

One of the best ways to gain new members is to have a ranked server and play on it. We have enough members that play every night that we can fill our server in no time. It is a lot of money, but for the reasons described above, it is well worth it. Kicking and banning smacktards and hacks, making room for members joining late and being able to change maps whenever we want, priceless.Comment

Ranked servers is a definite waste of money, but people with no life that life on the game would have nothing to gain frm it. With ranked servers people can prove them selves by earning a lot of global points and going up in rank. I like playing on ranked servers but would never buy one of my own.

it would be worth it if you have a clan to chip in. The best reasons would be choosing the maps you want and being able to kick retards. It just really sucks that the concept of ranked servers means limited supply and high costs.Comment

Clan matches are not ranked, but that doesn't matter if you have a ranked server or not. When you have a match, you just disable ranked mode and then you set the server around the league settings, when the match is done, put it back in ranke mode.Originally posted by Kaiser_Weber...

I ordered a 32player ranked server recently, so no I dont think its a waste of money. Banning idiots is the no1 reason. If you're a spotty student with no money then, yeah £600pa is alot of money... but if you've got a few quid.. and dont mind spending it to improve your gaming experience... then I say pay the dosh.
