Well, I bought a mic/headset for BF2 thinking it would be easy to set up, but nooooooooooo! In Sound Test Hardware Wizard, I try to test my voice/mic but I get an error. 0x80004005. Windows cannot execute Dpvsetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install. What the hell is that!! Why does BF2 mess the the registry settings. I just installed a new hdd and reinstalled winxp pro and of course BF2. Before installing BF2 I ran the Test wizard and my mic was fine and NO errors. Only after installing BF2!!Is therer a fix for this, I would like to use my headset sometime.

A quick google search for Dpvsetup.exe yeiled a hit at MS for your exact problem:
Your sound acceleration is probably set to none. So it probably isn't BF2 messing with anything but you forgetting to install audio driver on your fresh install of XP, or something related like the settings mentioned in MS KB article.
Make sure audio drivers are installed and that the hardware acceleration is as explained in the Knowledge Base article from Microsoft. -

Ha!That's why I'm here!!!Their fix does not work. Still have the problem. When I set the registry entries and restart, they go back to where they were and not saved. Gotta love Windows.

Yeah, not that one, but there is another fix out there that fixes (supposedly) the registy entries. The fix in your link doesn't work. My hardware accelleration is set to full. I also tried dropping it a notch and same thing. Oh, guess I'll have to live with it.:cry:Comment

Have you installed latest audio drivers or your sound card, not just the ones that came with the install CD. The same goes for video and chipset drivers.Originally posted by boomstick68

i have a mic that works for teamspeak and other computer things, yet in the bf2 test menu it will not do anything.

I use a Audigy2ZS Platinum and Logtech Z5500 digi speakers, with optical conex and I know my s*** is rite...but for some reason nothing seems to work with BF2.Comment

When I try to open your dxdiag it fails as it isn't a zip file.
