    Sound and Lag issue

    Hi,

I've been play BF2 for a few days now and I've tried just about everything imaginable in order to get better ftps, cure lag, and try to fix multiplayer in the server settings. EA needs to have another patch for this game. My brother and I are playing over the internet via single player game. He is able to directly connect. Just start up a single player game. I don't have to start a multiplayer session first like many posts suggest. Lag is terrible. I can live with lag for now; but, my biggest issue is with the Sound and CTDs. I've tried basic acceleration, with software and hardware settings in the game. The game freezes with repeating sound. Then the customary CTD. This happens about 4x per gaming session with my brother.

    Here are my system specs:

    P4P800 deluxe w/ 2.4c HT intel
    Onboard sound
    1gig muskin ram
    BFG 6800 GT OC 256mb
    Antec TruePower 550W
Plus the normal hdds, cdrom/dvd, networking (currently shut off)....plus server machine w/ same settup but only a Geforce 5600 ultra 128mb vid card.

Any suggestions on the sound issue that I have is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    PvtNoob

PS. My server is use regular BF 1942 with multiple mods.....no problems at all. I just wish EA would fix.

I think the lag may be down to your CPU. It looks like It may be holding you back a little. As you only equal the recommended requirements which enable you to run at medium... Thats really the only thing I can think of... Sorry.

      Ben,

Could be....my brother's machine has a 3.06 HT Intell and he's experiencing lag too. I would think that an HT processor would hold me back.....

        Ben,

Oh, I forgot, my brother's new computer is running with two zeon processors and he gets lag on that machine. So, I really don't think that it's the processor holding me back. Minimum specs from EA suggests 1.7 ghz processor. They also suggest running the game with a 2.4 processor. After reading several postings at this site, seems to me that it doesn't matter what high end processor one has. One will still get lag.

          Ben,

Late last night tried the "Clearing the Cache" trick and the lag seemed to almost disappear. Everything was really smooth. I was checking with a few other games that I have and it seems that Silent Hunter III place information in the "My documents" folder. I was wondering why there is a cache for this game in "My documents" and not in the install folder?

            Re: Sound and Lag issue

I don't know what Silent Hunter III is but the cache is in My Documents so it is more user-friendly and easy to find. XP was done like this...

Glad you found out that it wasn't your CPU. It's quite complicated finding the one that you want. I wouldn't have thought that the HT would slow it down. HT normally speeds games up slightly. Also, what setting are you running at. If it's medium-high I would suggest that the 1gb of RAM may be down to it because when you have everything on high it requires a lot of RAM to save the stuff on whilst you're playing.

Silent Hunter 3 is a WW2 submarine simulation. very fun game. Pvt noob it could be your onboard sound that lags you when playing bf2.

It definitely could be the onboard sound. I just finished building the machine in my sig last week, and it came with Realtek onboard sound. No matter what I did with whichever drivers, I would get crashing to bluescreen or desktop and it was always right as an explosion sound effect was loading or something like that. In Far Cry the first time I shot the hand gun I crashed to blue screen. Today I went and got the Audigy 4, my first non-onboard sound card, and the crashing and stuttering is all gone. I think even a cheap non-onboard sound card can fix a lot of stuff.

Onboard sound sucks.....Get an audigy 2 zs sound card and disable your onboard sound. Another gig o ram wouldnt hurt either.
