Yes it's free. All you have to do is join a server with VOIP enabled...

The problem is, far too few people use voip. Maybe 10% of the squads you join (the BF2-native voip works only in squads) will use it. There are Ventrillo and TeamSpeak servers available on some servers, but that requires using an external program.

A few weeks ago I got into a squad consisting mostly of cockney Brits. It was a bit hilarious. <east_london_accent>"Dammit! The fookin' MEC chopper came round the corner and blew my fookin' arse off!"</east_london_accent>

i recommend not to use the voip as it seems to make the game lagg somewhat, i use x-fire, its way better and doesnt interfere with the game!

yeah voip doesnt get used alot
