Lag Problem

hi, just got a new comp, athlon 4000+, geforce 6800 with 1 gig, and it plays bf2 like a dream, and everything else. problem is, i get a major lag problem when playing bf2 online. its weird, i lag about all over the place and get an occasional "connection error" message.

whats weird is that i play online games regularly, play cod2 constantly online, along with various GTA online mods, and a couple of other games, and i never get lag problems.

any ideas why bf2 lags like hell?? i make sure i go on low ping servers, and my ping usually seems to be about 40 - 50, but i still lag about constantly. in SP and an empty server i set up its absolutely fine..

could be your ISP has bad routing. What kind of connection do you have? and have you ever tried ping plotter to trace your routes and see how good your routes are? (google search ping plotter freeware)

erm right ill try that. any idea why its just bf2 though?? every other game works perfect, on a good server in UK i get lik 30 ping, yet on bf2 on the lowest ping server i can find im lagging about all over the place...

*just to tell, im on BT Broadband 2 Mbit.

BF2 is known to lag badly, even on the best setups with the best connections. If you're still signed into an IM, logout. On your firewall, give BF2 full priviedges.

I'm suprised they haven't sorted the lagging issue yet. It was a major problem when I stopped playing over a month ago so something should have been done =/.

yeah but mine isnt just normal lag duff, its like major lag. getting connection error messages every few seconds and freezing up...

Manually update PB. WWW.PUNKBUSTER.COM Open up the ports in your router/firewall.

allready got the latest pb, and the firewall opening doesnt work =(

Crap connection, capped speed perhaps ?

Run http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

See if the speed you get matches your connection speed.

anybody have any ideas?? its starting to annoy when u lag about all over the place... cant shoot anybody at all.

What setting are you running it on try turning them down a bit

What do you mean the firewall opening doesn't work? And what settings are you running? vid and audio

erm, ive got medium/high settings, and with a geforce 6800. i tried lowering settings though, and it didnt help the lag at all.

erm, i meant that opening the ports myself didnt fix the lag problem...

when you say lag what do you mean its like a slide show or does you gun keep moveing up and down like he is trying to run

by lag, i mean its not an fps issue, its like, the game stops responding to my input, often i like miss a door or something, because the mouse doesnt turn, or i like hold s but i still go forward for a split second. usually when its doing this, i get the "connection erroe" message for a split second, then goes back to normal. it doesnt do it in SP or in an empty mp server i set up..

its weird, every other online game i play works absolutely perfect, with no lag if im on a good server
