I would like to give a thanks to "scrogathon" for this one. In a different thread, about a different problem, scrogathon stated that turning vsync on makes it look better, and that it does not allow the FPS to go above what your moniter can handle. I used to turn OFF vsync because I wanted 100+fps in counter strike. But, with vsync off, if your FPS goes above that of what your moniter can handle, you start seeing horizontal refresh lines, and they arent so pretty. So, I decided to go into my drivers and turn vsync ON, and it makes everything look oh so much better . Even though now my bf2 cant go over 60fps, it still lookes wonderful and the image quality it great. And I dont really see a difference in FPS performance, I just decided to make this a little more known, try it out for a little bit!

For clarification:

VSync OFF: better if you don't have the hardware capable of generating higher fps than your fefresh rate is set to i.e. 75hz refresh rate, you will need to be able to run 75 fps reliably or you may get the tearing effect

VSync ON: now you are forcing your hardware in sync with your refresh rate, can help/fix the tearing effect, but, limits your MAX fps to the refresh rate value, so if your capable of 100-200 fps then you would want it off

I have Vsync enabled because when i am getting 120fps, it appears choppy to me, it just seems like you care more about how many fps ur getting than how smooth the game is.
my solution is to run vsync on if you can, and turn the fps counter off and not worry about what ur getting.

If you have an ATI card you can download ATI Tray Tools and enable Triple Buffering for Direct 3D. Then you get Vsync without that nasty Frame hit when the frames drop below the monitors refresh rate.

God I wish Nvidia would offer TB for D3D games.

They got it right? If you go to the Nvidia Control Panel and look for the BF2.exe there's a Triple Buffering option here's a screen:

I was under the impression that the Nvidia drivers don't support TB with D3D. They didn't as of a few months ago. The option is there, but when you actually fire up the game it doesn't kick in.

You need to run DXtweaker to get TB with D3D on an Nvidia card.. which works great except for the fact that PB kicks for it. Which totally sucks.

Scorgathon what's with the LCD Thingy? I have a LCD but I don't really notice tearing well yesterday I tried to experiment with this and I saw something when I quickly turned my view up and down? Would that be tearing?

I've got Vsync off now btw.

most likely yes if you were getting over your monitors refresh rate.

this moreso applys for high end pcs, that pump out really high fps.

I've got enough ram (2048) and a Good HD.. Mostly I'm one of the first on the maps but my Graphics Card isn't Super1337 or something so I now get FPS's around 130 standing still and when I'm in combat it'll drop to 50/60
