Search Broken

Lately we've been getting a LOT of newb questions, but everyone tells the poster to do a search after flaming them.

Well, mabey this HAS been posted before, but of course, The search didnt work :laugh:. Anyway, the Search function is broken. Try searching any term; C4, C4 bug, jet, the, ect ect. All yield no results.

This needs to be looked into soon!

Me neither. But thats not the point.

The search function is broken, so in a time like this, where I wanted to go back and dig up some information regarding a certain bug, I can't.

I don't think that's a bug; the search just doesn't work on keywords less than 4 characters. It's annoying but I've seen other forums do the same thing. I think it's for performance reasons.

Ive searched whole strings to no luck, I was looking for SaldForks bf2 signature thread, even though it's stickied, I couldn't find exactly where. So I did a search to no avail. the search was "How to bf2 stats sig" without the quotes of course. Now the results I got werent even close and there was many pages. The only way I found it was to do a search for the same keywords, but specify SaladFork as the poster, then hey presto.

Seems like thats right. I just did a search on a nice long sentence, and it yielded pages of results.

But I doubt it would have anything to do with performance reasons, I mean in that case, only allowing SHORT 4 character searches or less would be more efficient dont ya think?

Well, since all the words in your search except "stats" were ignored, of course you got a huge hitlist. I searched for "signature stat" and that thread was #5.

Might be vulnerable to a DoS attack if someone searches repeatedly for "the"; the hitlist would be almost the entire forum. It is annoying since there are some things you just can't find without the ability to search on short words.

The Search button has always........been broken....or rather, not working.
In fact 75% of all forum search buttons, do not work. And yes, i usually laugh at the newbs, yelling at the newbs, to "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON". Its entertaining watching someone trying to belittle someone that more then likely has more "SMARTS" then they themselves.

If they let you pick 'Exact Phrase' as an option, it would work alot better.

In fact 75% of all forum search buttons, do not work. And yes, i usually laugh at the newbs, yelling at the newbs, to "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON". Its entertaining watching someone trying to belittle someone that more then likely has more "SMARTS" then they themselves.

The search function has not ALWAYS been broken thanks.

It HAS had issues recently and we ARE working to correct them.
