Strange slowdown problems lately

I have always been able to run this game with medium to high settings (mostly high though) and I have gotten a steady fps of anywhere between 60 and 90. Lately I've been having a problem where anytime I look in a certain direction, it slows down to around 15 fps and is unbelievably choppy. So if I'm looking south, it could be very smooth but as soon as I turn east, it gets awful. If I run to a different part of the map, the direction in which it is slow will change. It never once did this before last week but lately it has been getting worse and worse. I notice it most on maps like karkand and mashtuur. I really don't think there is anything wrong my computer because like I said, it never did this before.

Anyone know what's wrong?

oh man! i came here to post the exact same thing! i've been having this problem too! started happening yesterday. the fps is 15fps too and never had this problem with fps. even runs at the fps during single player! i've updated my drivers for my video card. But, i do need a new video card, its pretty crappy. even runs like then in low settings with anti-aliaising off, with 800x600 settings.

I have the EXACT same problem. Drives me nuts, just happens randomly. And once it starts it doesnt go away unless I restart the game. Its great, I friggen love it. If I turn geometry up to anything other then low, I cant look inside jeeps, helicopters, or buildings without the same crap happening.

I can run everything on high in singleplayer just fine, but I have to go to low and medium in multiplay, as well as turn off a bunch of things.

i see, for me, its unplayable, it runs at freakin' 15fps! i don't know what to do

son of a gay guy!!! i tried system restore before the date it started occuring, and reinstalling it numerous of times, and its still 15fps!

SAme problem here as well. I notice it's most pronounced on the SF map that has a palace at one end and a parachute spawn on the other (can't recall the name). Get in game and within minutes the FPS bottoms out at 15. Other maps I don't have the problem at all. I wondered out loud last night if I got on Kakland or Mashtuur if it would also happen since they are also city maps.

This all started with the install of SF, I even upgraded from 1 to 2 gigs of RAM and it has no effect. I reduced many of my graphic settings to low/off with no effect.
Only thing I can think of is that map has some geometry glitches that drag the framerate down for some graphics cards. (I have a geForce 6800GT)

You should check all your video settings, set everything to low, see if you have the same problem, I would delete all the cached video settings, and have it re-optimize the shaders.

In general do you find that it is worse around buildings, like the construction site on Sharqi Penn.? You probably have your shadows set too high for your graphics card.

Your system specs don't say high settings to me, but you failed to include your video card info, so I am really not sure. But what settings are you trying to run? *edit, my bad, I see nforce 5200, sounds like an old card, maybe someone else knows better.

Clear video cache to start with.
Directory where these can be found will look something like this

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\{D7B71EE2-0910-11CF-1D6A-0820A1C2CB35}_2554_3

That last part will be random, but yours will look similar. You can just delete that last directory that starts with {. This will clear all video shader crap, and make it re-optimize next time your start a map.

Start single player game see how it runs.
