    Attack heli gunner tips.

I rarely fly the attack heli if my friend isn't playing with me because 90% of the gunners you get are completely incompetent or at best can only hit armor with the tv so I've decided to make a short list of tips for gunners and maybe some people will find this useful.

    1. Use F9 view - This is one of the most basic and important things that u need to do as a gunner, when u get into the gunner seat press F9 so you'll get a much better view and you could actually see people under the chopper. Everytime you use a tv missle it switches back to the previous view mode so I suggest remapping this key to something more comfortable, mine is "C".

    2. Use voip - Communication is key when flying in a chopper and since most people don't use voip at least be in the same squad as your pilot so he can see what you type easier. Since he's busy maneuvering the chopper you'll have to do most of the typing and don't expect him to type back :).

    3. Spotting - A lot of times the pilot doesn't see what you do because he's busy trying to evade a missle or he just doesn't have the time to look everywhere like you do. So press "q" and spot anything of importance, also it's very important as a gunner to switch to F11 view from time to time to see if there's a chopper on your tail or if you're capping a flag to make sure nothing is behind you. I suggest remapping this key as well for more comfort, I use "V".

    4. Using the cannon - The cannon is effective against infantry, boats, jeeps and Vodnik's for anything else use the tv missle. Don't shoot armored vehicles or choppers with your cannon, you're just going to give away your position, overheat your gun, not cause much damage and pi$$ off your pilot. Use TV ! your pilot is flying slow and steady and is not shooting for a reason!

    5. Using the TV missle - The TV missle is the most important weapon of the chopper, if used correctly you can completely dominate everything in sight and out of sight :).
First off, to guide the tv missle you just left click to shoot and then keep guiding/redirecting it by left clicking on your tv screen to where you want it to go. You can even redirect the missle by more than 180 degrees to either side, it's a lot more flexible than it appears.
It has a range of a bit over 600m which is much further then u can actually see and with a little bit of guiding practice you can hit pretty much any target at that range. For example if you hover as Mec above the beach on Gulf of Oman you can easily hit anything on the carrier 600m away and you're completley safe since they can't see you.

A decent gunner should be able to hit armor almost everytime, blackhawks are aslo extremely easy to hit and should be hit at least half the time. Attack Helis are the toughest thing to shoot for new gunners but with some practice they're are also very easy to get unless they're doing sharp turns and movements and even then it's possible to hit them.
I can hit attack helis with the TV at least once in 3 shots and my gunner is even better. So drop the cannon and start using TVs vs choppers, even if you miss a lot of times don't get discouraged, keep trying and you'll get much better!
(Btw this is all ofcourse only possible if you have a decent pilot who gives you shots)

    6. The choppers - There are 3 types of choppers in the game and they're all a bit different with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Cobra (US Chopper) - The Cobra is the most maneuverable and the most flexible chopper out of the three. The gunner cockpit in the Cobra is almost level with the pilot's so the pilot doesn't have to go up as much to give you a shot and even if he doesn't give you a shot you can still manage ok because you basically see things on the level that he does. So if you're flying with a bad or selfish pilot, you better hope it's in the cobra :).
The TV missles in the cobra are extremely responsive and very easy to guide. The cannon on the Cobra is the weakest of the three choppers but it can still take out anything needed, just a bit slower.

Mig28 (Mec Chopper) - The mec Chopper is the biggest and the least maneuverable out of all the choppers but it packs the most punch vs infantry. The cannons have splash damage and deal a lot of damage to infantry and light vehicles but be careful because if you spray too much you'll be getting a lot of teamkills and team damage points. The TV on the Mec chopper is the least responsive out of the three choppers and you'll notice it a lot, don't expect this one to go 180 degrees! Guide it carefuly with less clicks because the response time is really bad.
The gunner cockpit on this chopper is also very low so if your pilot is flying too low make sure to let him know.

Chineese Chopper - The Chineese chopper is sort of a good medium between the other 2 choppers. It's not as manuverable as the cobra but it's not as bad as the mec chopper. The TV is pretty much as good as the cobra and the cannons are a bit better. The cockpit on this one is as low as the Mec chopper.

I apologize for any spelling mistakes and overly long sentences since I wrote this at 4am. I hope you'll find this useful and add some extra tips that I've overlooked.

This is one of the best guides I've ever read on this forum. Very no-nonsense and practical.

I have to admit, I got on as gunner today in the Chinese chopper on Daqing Oil Fields and sucked at it. I hadn't played for awhile. I'm sure these tips will help.

    Thanks for your efforts.

Great guide. I never new it was better to use TV missles against some things. I guess its just lucky I never played multiplayer, or some people may be pretty angry.

You have to give it time to turn. You cant fit in a last secon click and expect to hit the target.

You all missed the most fundamental rule in flying chopper. LOOK IN THE FRONT. 90% of my copter crashing results from hovering in front of a hummer, vodnick, or AA and line the gunner up for a perfect shot and he's just being an asshat and doesn't shoot.

Thank you for the tips. I would just comment that I hate it when my pilot tries to cap a flag with an attack chopper. Please don't do it unless absolutely necessary for the team. Just hovering there makes you seriously easy to hit with a TV guided missile. I love it when I see enemy attack helicopters trying to cap a flag.

most of the times i fire 1 rocket (totally miss, so the target will not notice it) and 90% of the time the gunner thinks: hey! pilot sees a target... let me have it! its mine, mine! all mine i tell ya!

Sadly IMO experience, apart from noob gunners who apparently have no right mouse button, the trickiest part of gunning is getting a pilot who doesn't think his rockets are the best weapon in the game.

A pilot who flies for his gunner is harder to find than a gunner who has decent hand-eye co-ordination.

I disagree with 1 thing in your post...

They are not easy to hit, and only very skilled gunners can do it on a regular basis.

Good points tho, looks like all he same ones that I covered in my gunner post :)

I agree with Strega, though the rest of your explenation about the difference between the choppers really helped me to understand and now i know more how to behave in those different types! thanks!

Unless you're using the Mi28 as its cannon melts other helos and its TV missiles are absolutely terrible. In fact, your guide doesn't even mention the bug with them. That is, they won't track unless you click on ground. Unlike the others, which track even if you click on sky.

This is in response to your question about making userbars take up one place on the screen, and change between them. Basically, you have to have a program like Jasc animation shop. There are many out there, just do a google search for "free gif animators" or the like. Each user bar you want to use will need to be a .gif file if they are already not. Only .gif's will be able to made into an animated .gif

There are many websites to help you create an amimated .gif Google for those too. You'll need a program to make animated gif's, and all the userbars you want to show.

What happens is that you will create large animated gif out of all your userbars. Think of them as film. In the animation program, you'll pick the first userbar you want to be seen. You'll have to make (the program will do this for you) many copies of the first userbar. The more copies you have, the longer it will display the first bar. Then, you'll insert your second userbar at the end of the series of your first userbar. Make many copies of that, and when you animate it, it will show your first userbar for a finite time (depends on how may copies you made of it), then it will switch to the second userbar you have, and stay there for a finite time as well (again, depending on how many copies you have of it.) If the number of copies is the same, both userbars will be shown for the same amount of time before switching. Keep adding each userbar (and it's copies) until you've added them all. You're done! Save the file as an animated gif, and it will only take up the room of one userbar, but display as many as you want! Also, the animated gif loops, so when the last userbar is displayed, it will automatically loop back to the first userbar image, and it loops infinitely
                            !

If you have any more questions, let me know, I'll try to help more if this is too confusing...
