Not enough diskspace?

Hi everyone,

When I try to install the 1.12 patch it says there's not enough diskspace for it, it requires 3000 MB. I've got BF2 installed on D: and on that drive there is more then 3000 MB of free space. Could it be that the patch automatically checks C: (where there isn't enough space there). I didn't get an option to set the disk space. How do I solve this problem?

And why does the patch need 3000 MB of free space???

it needs 3GB of space on the C: drive, I had the same problem with the patch, deleted a bunch of junk on C:, and the patch ran fine

I don't see how I can free enough space on C. Is there another option?

Does it really use the 3000 MB on C permentently for just the patch? Does the patch put 3000 MB of files on the drive?

i) Patch installation error: 3000MB free space required to install patch

Solution:

NOTE: You should create a backup of the registry before continuing.

1. Go to Start>Run and type in regedit and click OK.
2. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\Curr entVersion
3. Highlight the CurrentVersion node on the left side, but do not expand it (ie. do not click the + sign next to it)
4. On the right side, there should be a ProgramFilesDir variable.
5. Double click it, or Right Click>Modify.
6. The 'Value Data' box should have your Program Files directory. (default: C:\Program Files) Make sure you copy it down somewhere, and then change the value to a folder on a partition which has enough free space to patch BF2.
7. Close regedit, and then run the v1.12 patch.
8. Once the patching process is completed, follow steps 1-5 again, except this time change the 'Value Data' back to what it was originally. (NOTE: If you do not do this step, your system may become unstable.)

Thanks. Creating a system restore point before doing that is a sufficient backup?

Does the patch permentantly occupy the 3 GB on top of the orriginal game?

System restore point backup works fine yes.

Not only does the patch not take up 3Gb of space once finished, it doesn't even come close to needing 3Gb while installing.

As long as you change the key, install the patch and then change it back again you won't be putting your system at much risk.

I had this annoying problem when trying to install bf:SF, some other guy posted the exact problem as me, i remember him not getting any help, but i cant find that thread!, oh well ill pass on my wisdom.

If your drive is partitioned and the C:\ partition is small (mines 4gb) , BF patches and bf:sf wont install because they use the c:\windows\temp directory and they use it a lot. So for a partitioned drive change the location of the temp directory to a larger partition like your por.... movies partition. You only need to do this for installation then you can change it back if you want, although its a good idea to have temp folders on another partition to avoid fragmentation, this can all be done via the registry similar to the way mentioned above.

To change windows temp folder location left click on my computer and select properties. Then click advanced tab, then the button at the bottom environmental variables. Here you will see the two temp folders and where they are located, simply select them in the top box one at a time and change there location to your prefered partition, i just type in l:\temp for both and that works fine for me, then in the second box scroll to the bottom and find the temp and tmp variables again change value to same as you did for the two in the top box.

Click okay and resart, should have no trouble installing Bf:SF and maybe help with patches too, so long as you selected a partition with enough space on it!, i wasnt aware of the issue of patches needing so much program file space though...,

come to think of it this is probably a very rare issue since not many people partition their HD's up so much, although it does improve performance a lot and stops windows from bloating over time and getting fragmented
