AMD X2 performance issues / connection problems

Hi all just to let anyone with an X2 know if you are getting constant dissconets from BF2 servers or poor performance it is down to BF2 and your X2 if you are getting the disconections you need to run BF2 and while it is running open Task Manager then find BF2 in the processes list right click it and go to set affinity then un-tick CPU 1 this makes the game run just from CPU 0 which will solve the problem BF2 cant run from both cores running from one core hasent had any effect on my game performance and also i found this which might also be usefull to people having performance issues in all games not just BF2 have a look at this very interesting o i forgot you will have to do the affinity everytime you run BF2 as it resets its self there in a post in this forum somewhere on how to fix it to always run from CPU 0 but i cant find it lol

Also if you are getting disconnected it could be PB you should download the PbSetup.exe from the link below put it in a folder on you desktop brows to your BF2 folder and delete every thing in your PB folder then run the Pbsetup.exe you downloaded click add game select BF2 then click update it will re-install PB and update it for you

Can't agree this fixes this issue. I've updated PB and still get the disconnects.

Also note these constant connection issues are NOT just occuring to AMD X2 owners, there are plenty of users systems with single CPU's having the issue, so imho, it has nothing to do with that either

I think its a ping spike issue, resulting in the server barfing the client connection when the spike rises beyond a fixed delay.

This co-incides with my experience of this happening at times when the global BF2 player numbers are at their peaks.

The PB is a reccomended first step to fixing this Issue but it doesn't work for 91% of people.

There is a known problem with the X2 & windoze XP. It has to do with power management in Windows.

The above explains some of the problem and a "hot fix", but turning off the APM in windows seems to correct the issue.

I am not saying this is the fix for everyone i am just saying if you have an X2 and are getting disconected from servers try the single CPU thing it worked for me and no there is no side affect to setting BF2 to run from 1 CPU the only side affect there could be is that you get a drop in performance but i had no drop what so ever i was getting disconected all the time so i tryed the PB thing and it dident work then when i did the CPU thing it worked fine i just thought i would share this with everyone else if thats ok

I have an AMD X2 (4200) and unless I use prioapp to force the game to run on one processor it will constantly disconnect me. I have checked and rechecked the theory and it's true.

hmmm... same with my o/c'd X2 4400+ ... I had a few random CTD's and disconnects upon install, but were traced back to bunk memory timings. After I found the memory's sweet spot, both cores run prime95 stable, and I've yet to crash since.

people.... please read other post on this site before making a new one. this has been gone over and fixed a few times already. it has to do with dual core and HT cpu's and the way windows reads them and handles them. here is the write up and the fix.
