Cause for Red Tag Bug

I have tested this over a span of 2 weeks now. The cause for having your name turn red to your teammates seems to be from "Hot switching".

Hot switching is where you really fast switch to other team and hit insert key so you spawn and they cant move you back to other team. The server does not recognize the change and leaves you as an enemy.

Some servers you see this all the time as you never do on servers such as EA officials, because there is no hot switching available. Go to any of the Moders server and you will commonly see this problem. Its due to people switcing to the other side extremely fast.

However, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. It seems to be random on how the server is running and recieving data at the time. (Average pings maybe?). You will get a red tag bug every 1 out of 3 or 4 trys normaly. By all means try it out for yourself.

*EDIT* In certain cases you cant even join squads.

Only time i get the red tag bug on me is when i try to change to the other team quickly and the server switches me back but somehow my color tag is stuck.

Hm, I'm pretty sure I've gotten the red tag glitch without having switched to the other team, but I'll believe that "hot switching" is one cause of it.

Or maybe the server switched me from one team to the other before I spawned... I can't remember.

I dunno....i joined a server last night after restarting computer and i had the red bug. I was in the server on the other team at the begining of map. but my computer froze up and i had to restart. i did not have the bug befor the restart, but when i restarted and reopened and rejoined server...Reb bug. disconnected, and rejoined...It was fixed. i think there are a few things that happen. regardless i sure do like that i can rejoin a server and my score is still there. that is nice.

Quick switching does seem to be a big cause of this, I don't know about the only cause, but it does stick you in squads where you can't leave them a lot.

Yup that's how i notice it happen to me too, i had to reboot, join same server bu t on other team, and kept on getting TK, and i ask if my name was red, and guess what it was.

i think this bug has evolved and got worse. I was playing Gulf of Oman just now when i realised that i had an enemy in my squad, he's shown as green on the mini map but he's killing my squad members and converting our flag. He's dressed in MEC and kept spawning on me. I was playing on an EA official server btw.

I never team switch. But it happens to me. Gulf map is always prone to the red tag bug. But also seen it on a few others. But gulf 50% of the time, I got a dude running about red

haha it sounds like it's mutating. It's either mutating, or purposely being exploited by those that know how, and those that download scripts created by those that know how. (Note: Last statement had to be included to remove any possibility that a script kiddie thinks Im paying a tongue in cheek compliment, in other words so they can't misconstrue the post as "You ruin my game but damn you're 4 l337 h4x0r

Maybe EA will fix it if it becomes a widespread and easily to reproduce problem though. Kind of a two edged sword.

But then again, asking EA-Dice to fix it without ****ing a bunch of things up in the process, is just as scary. So far, they either won't fix things, or they do a rush fix instead of a thought out fix.

Well i curtainly didnt mean to make this a "how to" guide. I was just letting people know so we all can report it to EA. Majority > Quality in some cases. I thought id let you all know because that Interview Part II showed that they dont even know where to start to find problem.

Definately have to try this out, but I have spawned into a game with the nametag bug before. Definately not the ONLY cause, but this could be the easiest way to recreate the conditions in which the error in the code shows it's head. Have had people on Ventrilo get the nametag bug after switching before, and in rare cases, someone will show up friendly to me, and enemy to someone on Vent yet we're on the same team. Dunno if that helps or confuses people though. :p Should find all the DICE team's personal e-mails and post them on the first page of this post so we can spam them.

Hm, I'm pretty sure I've gotten the red tag glitch without having switched to the other team,

I have too, anopther thing I noticed was anytime one of my team mates has "english only" voice over on they have a redname tag. It's weird hearing MEC fellows speaking english.
