Im out of ideas, BF2 doesnt work.

Hey everybody, im new to the game, and this forum, but after alot of searching I still havent found a solution for my problem.

So i got the game a few days ago, installed it and it worked fine. So I played for a day with v1.0. Then i decided to patch it, okay, that alone was alot of work, but finally i got the game patched (I had the same problem many have had, "Patching failed" yadiyada, anyway i got the game patched manually, through the temp file)

Okay, so after patching the game crashes to desktop???
-My computer is powerful enough, the game worked fine with v1.0
still, here are my specs:
AMD Atholn 64 3200+
1Gb ram
Radeon X800 256mb

-I have tried to install the game with a clean regisrty
1.Unistall BF2
2.Boot
3.Clean my regisrty with Registry Mechanic and WinASO
4.Install BF2
5.Boot
6.Patch the game manually( I have to patch 1.03 before 1.12, for some reason the 1.12 doesnt patch, even manually, when no earlier patch is patched)
7.Boot
8.Start BF2, Black screen and Crash.

-I have tried to delete my BF2 files from c:\documents and settings\my user name\my files\BF2. No worky.

-I even tried to get the game work with this mad *****.exe combo, where i basically try to play the game with *****, mounting a mdf.file with daemon tools and then using SafeDiscHider, and then....nothing.

-Tried shutting down everyting running in the backround, once accidentally closed explorer.exe, that didnt work EITHER!

-Dont think its that RAM thing either, tried to look if the power was truly running low for the ram, but it looked just fine, all I know, i could have been running 2 computers at the same time. I Bumped the Ram Voltage and nothing.

-I have updated everything possible, audio, video, motherboard, MediaPlayer, Java...

-Also looked at the video settings, and they were 1028-768, which is exactly what it is supposed to be

-I just installed the game for the 14time. Is the next step Re-Installing my windows, or could there be something im missing???

Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry, for my somewhat bad english, and for writing this post about problems with BF2 even when there are millions of posts out there about the same subject.

I have gone through thousands of posts, tried everything. The game is awesome, but v1.0 servers are runnig thin.

Okay, how are you patching? You only need to apply the most recent patch available, not any of the others.

The CTD could be caused by drivers, specifically video drivers. Use the Cats 5.11, not 5.13 which are the latest.

Also check the refresh rate setting and see if your monitor supports is (usually the number after the @).

I used to have the same problem as you after patching, and I replied to another thread about this as well.

I sort of had the same problem, but it would CTD after the splash screen. After searching around I found one solution that worked like a charm. Try renaming your battlefield 2 folder under My Documents (My documents>Battlefield 2) to "Battlefield 2 BU". It seems that after the patch some ppl's profile folders got corrupted somehow. The next time you try to launch the game, the game should generate a new Battlefield 2 folder under My documents that isn't corrupted, and everything should work fine. That's what solved it for me, try it yourself.

I had same prob and after banging my head against the wall countless times, I decided to re-inst XP pro. Wow, what a difference! Make sure you have all drivers before starting. Most important, after install go to windows update(or new microsoft update-better IMHO) and do ALL updates. Then clean video driver install and what ever else you need to stabilze system. Then I installed BF2, SF2 and last 1.12 update. I DID NOT try to start game in between installs!!! SF2 has a 1.1 patch that I did not know about.

Any way, since the re-inst everything has been running like a top plus I have res set to 1280x1024 with all HIGH settings, no lag...
