Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
Real life missle guidance. Notice how the missle doesnt get into the path of the plane and hit it from the tail. It anticaptes the location of where the aircraft will be and intercepts it in its path.
the specific clip is at 4:20
edit: EA, DICE, whatever.
So would this overpower AA missles or anything? Thoughts...
Theres a huge difference between heat seeking missile and radar guided missiles
And if anything the behavior of AA missiles is too realistic to balance anything. In real life only 5% or less of all heat seeking missiles hit their target
Ever wonder how come all those heat seeking missiles fired at passenger jets in Iraq missed? Slow target jet still missed, now think about a fast moving jet.
Heat Seeking missiles in real life have friend of foe systems installed onto it.If the missile is headed towards a friendly plane it will detonate away from the aircraft.
Also the heat seeking missiles fired at jets were obscolete piece's of junk and most likely fired by untrained gun crews.
Well since this is a few years in the future, they will probably have the AIM-9X sidewinder. I know nothing about it, but I assume there are some sort of upgrades to it. 5% maybe for stingers, but I assume a couple years in the future heat-seaking missles would be a bit better. And its not just when you're head on, the missles always veer off when Im behind planes and they make any sort of bank or turn.
Heat seeking missiles do have the capability of "leading" the target. In the beginning they just always pointed there nose at the target. True heat seeking missiles will not have an IFF (friend or foe system) on them. The missiles are entirely passive meaning they missile emits no energy towards the target unlike radar.
There are too many thigns wrong with the missiles to mention, so I think its best not to argue about how they are lol. For example, with IR guided missiles, the enemy shouldn't have a lock tone warning.

Unless I'm mistaken, that's incorrect. Aircraft are equipped with an RWR that 'reads' the radar signature of other aircraft, which is displayed on the hud. Doesn't stop you from spiking your buddy.
Here's a (bad) picture of one.
Once you uncage a heatseaker (if you chose to do that instead of designate a target), it'll go after the first available heat source, not 'the enemy'. This problem first arose in Vietnam with F4s and the first generation of heat-seeking missiles such as the AIM-9.
As far as radar guided missiles, such as the AIM-120, it can only 'ping' targets from so far away; it's 'guided' initially by pointing the aircraft's nose at the target until it reaches an autonomous point where the radar kicks in and it tracks the target by itself.
Both series of missiles can most definitely be used against friendlies, but that's where pilot judgement kicks in and tells us not to uncage that sidewinder because Roman 4, to our 2 o'clock, just hit his burners and that's a much tastier heat source than that Mig-21 furthe away.
As you said, it's no wonder that the missiles missed the passenger jets, by not guiding the missile properly you may as well not have wasted your time in the first place
We aren't talking about the AIM-7, unless you mean that the missile in that video was an AIM-7. I doubt the pilot would use an AIM-7 from that range, more likely an all-aspect heat seeker like an AIM-9M. But hey we can't see it too well so maybe youre right :)
AIM-9 - Heat seeker, follows a active heat source! in uncaged varrient, if you want these to be better, try adding more flares to aircraft because if properly modeled would be very effective for close comabt (dogfighting) or ground 2 air.
AIM- 7 or AIM-120 - shouldn't bother having these in game because real life locking of a target is hard! and the maps arent big enough, you would spend 1min locking and within that time would be in AIM-9 range.
i have put this in simple terms for people to understand because locking of a target is a complex thing to dissucss! like TWS radar....
Want to have a go at the most life like experience of locking a target? try "lock on: mordern air combat" extremely realistic and i have been playing for about 3 years now!

Nah LOMAC is a little too arcadey. Try Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. :)
Maps are definitely too small for radar guided missiles, which is a shame. Nothing beats blowing the face off of some pilot who can't see you but keeps getting spiked. But we could go on and on about how unrealistic the aircraft are and people would call us planewhores, which I guess we are. Oh well. Sucks to be on the ground.
On a side note, I got two golds in a 64 person wake island server....playing ON THE GROUND OH MY GOSH. People say that the guys on the ground never get golds well HA! I have proven you wrong!

imagine if they had modeled turn speeds! (cant think of the technicall words at the mo lol) you know different speeds alow better turn rates that would of added a better angle to the game. allowing stinger sites to get a easier lock ... the possibilites are endless

It doesn't take a minute to lock an enemy with your TWS radar, you have to deviate your radar's heading towards the foreign target making sure its not friendly, then lock and shoot and this can be done in seconds but it depends on many factors (distance, jamming, etc...) Also you can program a aim 7, a aim 9 or a 120c missile since its capable and designed to do so, imagine you are on a dogfight and your only missile is a 120c, it would be very hard to lock it from the TWS radar, so you could enable the heatseak mode from your cockpit and it would find a target.
I don't know but Battlefield 2 with the only heatseak capable missiles reminds me of BFV since it only allows one class of missiles.
