Logging in Problem 'Connecting To Account Server'

Hi, since christmas day I havn't been able to play BF2 (or BF2:SF) online, this is the problem:

Start up game> click 'log in'> box comes up 'Connecting To Account Server' (with a loading mouse cursor).
Then this will stay there indefinately.

I have tried uninstalling BF2 and BF2:SF, installing BF2, installing BF2:SF (which 'patches to version 1.1') and the installing the 112 patch.

I've tried shutting all other bandwidth-using apps down, Steam and countrer-strike work fine (normal ping/lag etc)

I ask here becuase 'EA's call centers are not staffed over the Christmas period'
If anyone else has had this problem please let me know, otherwise any help or suggestions would be much appriciated, thanks!

Do you have a software firewall running? e.g. ZoneAlarm, SyGate, Microsoft Windows XP Firewall

If so, turn it OFF.

If you do not have a firewall running, post back here and let me know.

ok here is what u do there is a config file somewhere that saves ur recent servers and when a server goes down thats in ur list it doesnt understand and freezes up, now I dont remember where this file is but i will find it and post later

Hi, I only have the windows xp firewall, I've tried turning it off with no luck

Right, looks like the problems is my user account 'robertgilbert86'
I tried making a new online account and that works.
I also tried removing the BF2 save folder from my docs and retreiving the 'robertgilbert86' account, which resulted in the same problem as before.

So, do you think contacting EA will help, I don't really want to start a new account as I have a 28k score....

yeah making a new accoutn would work because it doesnt have the same saved servers

i swiped this from the CAL forums

this is how to log into your BF2 account faster. This procedure basically just clears your BF2 history/favorites. My time to login went from like 15secs, to 5.

1. Goto /My Documents/"your user name"/Battlefield 2/Profiles/0001

2. Open "General.con" with Notepad

3. Delete any lines containing:
addServerHistory
addFavouriteServer

Hi, I've tried this and it hasn't worked, also note that I once left it connecting for over an hour with no luck

(I did this to all profiles too, so I didn't just delete the list in the wrong profile)

well i have no idea then try retrieving the account on another computer and login
