    Stupid Questions

Alright... I know you guys are flooded with folks that have gotten this game for christmas and have been bugging you with stupid questions, but I have a few and I havent found an answer to that online. The rulebook that came with my copy of the game is a joke, maybe 15 pages and that's being nice about it. I stopped on my lunch break and looked for the strat guide but the three places near here are out. Anyways, I apologize for these questions, but they are relativly simple and if someone just takes a moment to kick them out I would appreciate it.

    1. What does it take to unlock a new kit in multiplayer? Is it based on rank? I got one promotion, but it didnt let me unlock anything. Or im just doing it wrong.

    2. Does everyone play with special forces? Is that something I should really get if i am gong to play online a lot?

    3. What button opens up your communication options? I hear people constantly saying "Sorry Chief" or "Mount UP" and stuff like that, and I dont know what to push for it. I looked in the control options, and I didnt see a button assigned for it. That or I am just an idiot and missed it, which is quite a possiblility.

    4. Is there a specific initial upgrade kit that is better than any of the others? I generally play Sniper, Special ops, or anti tank... any suggestions?

    5. Voice. I hooked up a game headset and mic to my comp, same as I use for teamspeak, the set up in game seemed fine. I have played pretty much all christmas even and day, and never once did I hear anyone talk to me. Now... I admit that I didnt notice at first that some of the servers have little headphones on them... I started using those servers only. I guess my question is... do a lot of people use headphones? No one answered when I talked, do I have to press a button to get that? I saw a bunch of keys set to "secure com" and "chat" but I dont know what is to my own team and what is to everyone. To play it safe, I just shut my mouth and continued trying to learn the game.

    6. Squads. In games where there were squads, I joined them and always did better as it was no longer one on one, but a team. The problem is... more than half the games there were no squads. If I tried to create one, it just beeped. Do people turn off squads or something? Do you have to be a certain rank to create one?

Anyways. I appreciate any help in advance, and I hope I havent added to much to the flood of noob questions.

    1. when you get to a rank you get an unlock
    2. no not many people play with sf. You can get it but you will be fine without it.
    3.q
    4. not sure what you mean but to get points be a medic.
    5. thats becasue you have gone on bad servers where teamwork isn't important.
    6. any rank can create squads. For so reason some servers disable squads

      Re: Stupid Questions

      1. You get an unlock *ALMOST* Every Time you make rank, PFC and one of the sergent ranks do not.
      2. SF is not necessary to play the game.
      3. answered
      4. For the Kit's you like to play, the DAO-12 is going to be a godsend for your AT kit.
      5. VOIP only happens when you Join a Squad or Become a Squad leader and talk with your commander
      6. Squads is one of the best things about this game, some servers turn the function off, but I don't think they are supposed to do that if they are a ranked server.

Gentlemen, you rock. Thank you for the answers.

        Additional questions.

        7. When in a Squad, and VOIP is on, do you have to hit a button for it to work or does it just kick in so long as I talk loud enough to go over the threshold setting I worked out during install.

        8. I need to go upload the patches apparently, I noticed people talking about new maps. Are additional maps able for "ranked" games? Or just the basic ones?

          7. B is the default mapped key for Squad VOID
          8. The pathces have added 1 map I know of (Wake Island) You definately want to do the patches. Make sure that your Operating system drive has at least 3.0GB of free space before running the 1.12 update (which is the most recent they f*cked up the numbering for some unknown reason.

There is also a Lag Guide available as a link from this forum, don't have it offhand. **hint** use the search function to find it, that i very much recomend for improving your performance. .

            Re: Stupid Questions

Press and hold 'B' to talk to your squad, and if you are a squad leader, press and hold 'V' to talk to the commander.

In one of the patches, the map 'Wake Island 2007' was included, other than that no, there are not new maps for ranked servers

If your computer is on the lower end of the spectrum, try these two guides...

As far as "squad talk" is concerned, I play in squads about 95% of the time, usually with a buddy. Some people don't like talking, but will follow "orders" or info you give them like "There is a free tank available". Try to keep talking to a useful state. Keep the complaining to a minimum and be sure to remark on any cool event from time to time.

But I have found that a lot of the servers that claim to have VOIP enabled, don't have it set up correctly. When we join a squad, we always test to see if it's working.
